I have an appointment with the for my first real tune up on my Phonak Infinio I90r aids. I have had them for almost 18 months and this is first since the initial fitting. I really don’t know what to ask and how to ask if the aids are doing all that they can do for me, so I asked my question and concerns to . here is a PDF of what the AI suggested the I ask the Aud to do with my aids;
.01.pdf (19.8 KB) I would appreciate if those with doing their self tuning could look at this PDF file and tell me if it would be ok to present this at my visit. Mostly is if the information is correct and if it might tick off the AUD.
Sometimes, the best approach is to keep things simple. Are the aids working for you? If not, describe all the situations where you feel they are not providing adequate support. Hearing is a highly personal experience, so I would not recommend using the list you attached, as it may not be relevant to your specific situation with the aids.
IIt’s similar to when you visit a doctor and say, “It hurts here and there.” The clinician’s role is to ask the right questions to arrive at the correct diagnosis.
@OcramSagev thank you for your advice. That’s my problem, I am not sure what I am supposed to expect of my aids, am I getting all I can get for my hearing loss or just settling for good enough?
I have been getting my heating aids from the for 21+years. I don’t do even though I have had a couple of audiology courses. My VA audiologist is a professor of audiology as well as the director of audiology for the VA here in the state. He had been working with me on my hearing loss for about 8 years. Over the years I have learned how to explain my hearing loss and how my aids sound and are functioning for my hearing needs. Now let mevsay something else. I am a retired IT professional/software engineer/electronics technician/engineer. Yes I could easily DIY if I chose to, but I also know myself and know I would never be satisfied with my adjustments. So I leave the adjustments to my audiologist. I also do daily journals and a week before my appointments zi email my concerns and my praises to my audiologist so he is ready for my appointment. I have an appointment this coming Monday morning for my annual hearing exam. I will be getting my primary and backup aids firmware updated. And I have a list of minor adjustments. But mostly my email was praises for how well my Phonak Spheres are working for me. My backup aids are the Oticon INTENT1 aids. My Spheres are wonderful all around and awesome in extremely noisy environments. My INTENT1 aids are great for the forest trails I love to walk daily. I realize that not all VA clinics give the same service. I have used 5 different clinics in 2 different states. All good service but my present clinic and audiologist cannot be beaten.
Hope your aids are working well. I think you or your audiolgist should have made an appointment way sooner. Have you asked for or received any accessories partner mic/ tv connector. Have you tried different domes or got earmolds. Talk about any problems or excellent experiences you had. What is the most difficult for you IE: in cars, outside, crowds, restaurants, phone. Not coming in after almost two years may make them think everything is great.
I got fitted with molds a couple months after my first fitting. They did a real quick Real Ear afterwards, they were better than the domes, they still are. I still am having trouble picking up speech, I move things up and down in the programs to get things a clear as I can. I have been told by many including the AUD that my hearing will never be like before, so my expectations are not that high. It has taken decades for my hearing to get where it is on my tests so how am I supposed to know if my aids are doing their best for me. I finally got the tv connector because even with aids I was missing much of the dialog. With the connector i can’t control background noise, the echo effect is driving me nuts, the slider has to be moved all the way to the TV end and then I can’t hear when my wife talks to me. She is not happy about that. There are only two controls for the aids to control the tv connector, volume and the slide control that goes from all aids to all TV. I need to find out if there is anything that they can do to make things in my aids better. I f there’s nothing they can do to make my aids better for me by me telling them what’s bothering me, then I am left with the suggestions that the suggested. That’s why I asked in the forum if the AI is totally out of line or is everyone thinking that I would piss off the AUD by handing it to him. Of course, I am not going to walk in his office and say, “hey do this”. Either one of the do it yourselfers or the techs that read these forums could tell me if this AI information is wrong for what I am trying to do.
