Apple Airpods Pro 3, anyone tried them as hearing aids?

I’m thinking about buying an Apple Airpod Pro 3 for a backup hearing aid. My daily is an Oticon Real 3 that I want to last for another two and a half years (they are two and a half now). Also the Apple Airpod Pro might be nice for tv watching. I am interested in anyone’s experience. Thanks.

They work for me, not as well as my new Virtos but OK as backups.

But, that doesn’t mean they will be useful for you.

Hi, I had to wait a couple of months until my hearing aids were repaired. I needed something to use and had just heard about Apple’s iPod ultra 3. Since they cost thousands of dollars cheaper than a backup pair of a backup hearing aid. They worked but they were nowhere as good as my hearing aids. I liked that the iPod made me take a built in hearing test and adjusted them to my needs. I was surprised to see that the hearing test the iPod did, amazingly close to the results of my audiologist tests. A second problem was the time a charge lasted. My current hearing aids work all day 8am to 9pm. The iPod lasted about four hours. They recharged faster than any rechargable hearing aids. Lastly I found that it was more uncomfortable than my hearing aids. I bought some bud covers which helped. The iPod ear pieces would occasionally fall out of my ears. Despite these problems, I still recommend that you buy the iPods. They kept me into conversations and enabled me to hear music andtv shows. Good luck.

Buy 2 pairs. They are cheap enough compared to real hearing aids.

It depends on your hearing loss . If your hearing loss is mild to moderate then yes, they are useful. For severe to profound hearing loss : I don’t know (they are not meant for this type of loss).

For me , they sound great for listening to music and occasional hearing aid use but not for extended periods of time . Things like dishes and fork sounds while eating sound very uncomfortable . I don’t find them good when there are sudden changes in the volume of sounds (alarm bells for example ). I guess they don’t have the G50,65,80 levels that hearing aids have (that’s just a guess).

They will only be of use if your hearing loss is less than 50 db or so (not good enough for me). As for listening to TV, a streamer (like Phonak’s) is probably far better.

Thanks to everyone for your responses. I have posted my . As indicated, my left ear is much worse than my right ear. In fact, I often do not even bother to wear my hearing aid in my left ear. My conclusion is the Apple Airpods Pro 3 as a hearing aid would be no benefit to my left ear, but MAYBE in my right ear.

I don’t think that you can know for sure until you try them. They do work for me and my hearing profile is supposed to be out of range. Music sounds very good speech just barely ok. There are a lot of adjustments you can make. Can’t beat the price.

Thanks, yes I think I’ll still give them a try. If they don’t perform well as back up hearing aids I still should be able to use them for tv listening.

Does anyone have information on how much more amplification they can provide, compared to AirPod Pro 2’s? I tried those and find them not loud enough for my hearing loss and I am wondering if AirPod Pro 3’s would be louder. My hearing loss is in the 65-70 range.

Your shows moderately severe hearing loss.

All are restricted to mild to moderate hearing loss. This restriction is imposed by the . Both the APP2 and the APP3 have this restriction. This is why they sound “low” to you.

EDIT: Your average hearing level can be calculated for both ears at specific frequencies (e.g. 500 Hz, 1000 Hz, 2000 Hz, and 3000 Hz). For your right ear the value is 60 which puts you in the moderately severe hearing loss.

I bought the Apple Air Pods Pro 3 two weeks ago. The hearing aid function I find is good around a fairly quiet house with a small number of people. They are more than adequate.

I tried them in a somewhat noisy restaurant. They were not very good. My every day hearing aids, Oticon Real 3, are also not good in noisy environments, but admittedly somewhat better than the Air Pods.

As a secondary, back up type hearing aid, the Air Pods Pro 3 at $199.00 from Amazon, are a solid value for me. But they will not replace my prescription .
