I have a question. If I only need 1 hearing aid do I still have to purchase a pair?
I went to my GP and told them I want to know why one ear doesn’t work. I explained I have 2 children with hearing loss.
Head done, dr said no abnormality shown. Went to audiologist at Audika where my dr referred me. The hearing test was more thorough than the one I did a while ago at spec savers. The audiologist actually explained the and the speech discrimination test.
While I was at the office the Audi got me to try a hearing iAd in my ear that I thought was dead. I have thought my bad ear was unaidable all my life. Turns out is is aidable. The Audi also said if hearing gets worse then it might be worth investigation in cochlear implants. Wow!
The Audi left it to me to contact for a further consultation to discuss what hearing aid to get.
The only thing is Audika only do Oticon. I think I would want to have the option to try different brands especially as it would be the 1 aid I ever would have used. Not sure if to make a follow up consult appt or not.
The other hearing places are
Freedom hearing who visit for a week every month to six weeks depending on staff.
Hearing matters, visit for a few days of a week every month - clashes with my work. Nearest office if not visiting is 5hrs away.
Independent hearing visit one day a month and it is a day when I work. Nearest office is 3 hrs away. They are called independent hearing however they are not members of the independent audiologists association of Aust.
Spec Savers whom I don’t want to go back to. Only have an audiologist about one week a month.
Not a great deal of choice unless I travel. Nearest independent audiologists or Costco is 5-6 hrs drive away.
Sorry I don’t have the Audiogram from Audika. Will request a copy when I see my doctor again next month.
I have health insurance but there are no preferred providers or cheaper deals at any audiologists.
