Why don’t my bone conduction earphones work? They’re ok when placed over my ear canal (without my aids in).

Bone conduction isn’t very efficient for sounds outside the midrange. They’re fine for mid frequencies but struggle with low tones and perform poorly with high ones.
High-frequency waves, like treble, carry more kinetic energy because of their faster oscillations, but they lose that energy more quickly over distance due to absorption. That’s why a transparent medium like air is better than a solid for transmitting trebles.
Bone conduction headsets perform poorly in noisy environments because external sounds easily enter the ear canal and overwhelm the audio. These loud settings are also where people with hearing loss face the greatest challenges.

Thanks for that very clear explanation. All my life I’ve been an avid radio listener, mostly speech, so my hearing loss is quite a problem. My son bought me these sport bone conduction phones thinking they would suit my hearing loss but it’s not the case. Fortunately though , as I said, surprisingly, they work quite well just placed over the outside of my ear canal without the discomfort of in- ear buds.
Thanks again for the info.
