Someone I know is looking for help with understanding TV’s on the fly (As in other peoples TVs). She has phonic marvel ’s. My question is this, is it possible for those aids to connect via Bluetooth directly to a Bluetooth TV ? Also, If a TV was not Bluetooth but it had a headphone jack, could she use a Bluetooth transmitter plugged into the headphone jack to pair to her Marvels and stream audio directly to her HA? If she did this would it always mute the audio for everyone else? I seem to recall that some TVs may have a way to work around that. Anyway, I told her that putting her remote Mic in front of the TV output was probably a good option. Any other suggestions?
Hi Sandpiper, I am not sure about Phonak Marvels ability to connect to anything other than the TV connector 2 or your mobile… I tried connecting my Marvels to lots of other things vie Bluetooth and I had no success whatsoever, my Paradise aids on the other hand seem to connect to anything Bluetooth thus far, but I am sure there will be some exceptions to that rule… Cheers Kev.
Thanks for the response! Is there a phonak TV connector one? This person was looking at buying the TV connector and I wouldn’t want her to by the wrong one.
You are welcome Sandpiper… No it is TV Connector 2 and specifically says “Made for Marvels” and incidentally it also works with Phonak Paradise Aids, it has 2 forms of connecting, via a jack plug or the preferred method of optical out plug for the TV, it will also plug into an iMac, PC or laptop which is extremely useful for Zoom or video calls, the Marvel hearing aids have a built in mic, so no microphone is required… I hope this helps your friend. Cheers Kev.
Hi Remag1234, Having tried to connect/pair my Marvels and Paradise via Bluetooth to my iMac 2015 it wouldn’t recognise either… Perhaps yours is a newer model, mines is a i7 processor with retna, I have it duel booted into Windows 10 which may be the problem? My iPad would not recognise my Marvels either, but paired effortlessly with Paradise… Cheers Kev.
I thought, I would chime here because I do have Marvels Naida 90. I also have an HP Pavilion I 7 with Bluetooth. Had problems with Zoom and Windows 10 bt so disabled intel bt in windows and added a Asus Bt 400 works pretty good with Zoom. I have to keep my hearing aid aimed at the usb doogle or it will cut in and out. Also remember Marvels will only connect to one device at a time so have to disconnect my ha in the phone in order to connect to the computer or any other device. I have a Sony Blueray player with Bt connect to my tv so am able to connect ha when watching a DVD and the Blueray player will connect to You tube so can connect ha there also. I don’t have a bt TV maybe in the future but really only watch Football so no big deal. Again Marvels only connect to one device so have to disconnect phone here too. Even though have to connect and disconnect fairly often still great improvement in hearing.
Probably not helpful, but for “other people’s TVs”, since hearing loss is a disability, I always request closed captions. If they can’t figure it out, I pull out my phone (which has an Blaster) and turn it on for them.
Edit: I did not know that TVs came with Bluetooth now??
My hitachi smart tv did NOT have bluetooth capabilities but adding an Amazon Firestick gave it the capability. The firestick will give any tv with an hdmi port the capability.

My question is this, is it possible for those aids to connect via Bluetooth directly to a Bluetooth TV ?
could work, depending on how exactly in TV is implemented, eg some people have problem with their macbooks and its BT implementation, for me on my thinkpad under linux, both marvel and paradises work
I didn’t test on BT, but it either works, or not, but only way to find out is to try
Also, If a TV was not Bluetooth but it had a headphone jack, could she use a Bluetooth transmitter plugged into the headphone jack to pair to her Marvels and stream audio directly to her HA?
If she did this would it always mute the audio for everyone else?
That depends on the tv itself
For example, mine has hdmi to soundbar for everyone else, and I use optical cable on the tv itself, and it’s separate sound, works if we shut down the soundbar, I have separate volume and so on
If TV can send signal only to one output, then yes, plugging anything in that output would ‘steal’ the sound and sound wouldn’t go to other outputs
Like, headphones in my tv will take the signal if soundbar is turned off (hdmi), but since my tv connector is in optical I’ll still get the sound. But in order for soundbar to get the signal, headphones HAVE to be unplugged
Again, try and you’ll see how exactly your TV behaves
Anyway, I told her that putting her remote Mic in front of the TV output was probably a good option.
Phonak TV connector and ideally plug in optical output in TV then you have full autonomy
I think she has partner mic, no? I mean, that’s how it’s called with phonak. Such sound will be better than what aids alone can catch, because of smaller distance, but TV connector solution is superb
Or BT streaming, they’re basically of the same quality, but the difference is that using TV eats the battery 3 times slower
And has a better range through the walls
But mic is perfectly okish workaround.
But just remember, sound is digital in tv, then goes to speaker, then through air, then to mic, then digital, then wifi to aids, then again to speakers in aids
With any streaming you skip sound through air (where there’s loss in quality), and several conversions plus avoid one latency - tv to speaker + mic to aid, you have only one
I have an LG Smart TV that has Bluetooth and I can pair it with my Paradise aids. However there is a substantial audio lag which makes it unusable for me. The TV only has the option to delay audio which obviously makes it worse.
Hi Kev,
Yes it is helpful, thanks!
All the posts have been very helpful, I’m working my way thru them trying to respond to everyone else who replied also.
I guess what I’m still wondering is why can’t you Bluetooth connect your aids directly to the computer to use zoom?
I’m also trying to understand the pairing and connect process better with hearing aids to devices. Do you need to open and close both battery doors to initiate the pairing process or is it only one hearing aid that you must do this with on the Marvel since there seems to be some kind of master relationship going on. Now that I wrote that I remembered that there is a button on rechargeables that acts as an on off, So I guess there’s different ways to enter pairing mode. I’d be interested in knowing them so I can help other people.
It’s my understanding that with most devices the connection is maintained as long as the 2 devices are within range and many will automatically reconnect when back in range. Therefore if you want to connect to something else you have to turn Bluetooth off in the device to prevent unwanted connection. Is this correct?
I seem to recall that the paradise made some type of advancement with Bluetooth capabilities. I don’t completely understand it. What was the improvement?
I seem to recall that the paradise made some type of advancement with Bluetooth capabilities. I don’t completely understand it. What was the improvement?
One of the advances Paradise made was the ability to pair with more than one device (up to 8 devices) and the ability to pair with 2 devices simultaneously at the exact same time… With Marvels it is my understanding if you want to pair via Bluetooth to another device, you must unpair first from say your phone and then open and close the battery doors, then pair to your laptop and it is a bit of a pain… The TV Connector 2 is not a Bluetooth device and connects to your Marvel Aids via a different protocol, so there is no need to reconnect after the initial setup via a small button on the connector, it will automatically reconnect once it has detected audio input, although it has an annoying little feature as it alerts you via small audio tones if there is no audio input, perhaps its just a reminder to switch the TV Connector off ? Cheers Kev
If the “other TV’s” are in the homes of friends and relatives that give you access to the RCA jack or optical connector that is the best way to go. The TV connector sold at Costco for around 100.00 works with the Marvels. (same device as Phonak, different packaging). It works so well I’ve bought a number of them so that I can quickly connect without the hassle of trying to make the bluetooth connection work. Not all TV’s have blue tooth built in. The RCA jack on some TV’s may mute the speakers when you plug it in which it why the optical output is preferred. The optical cables I have found are a bit trickier to connect so practice at home and also note that some of the optical cables come with little plastic covers that if your not familiar with will take you a bit to figure out they need to be removed…
Also some TV’s require you to go into their menu’s to enable or turn on the different outputs but once you get it working you can enjoy watching a movie or TV with others. Well worth the effort!!! I do connect to my computer via bluetooth but its just not as easy as the TV connector. When the TV connector is hooked up and on all I have to do is walk within range of that device and it connects automatically. I believe the Marvels will only remember 2 of the TV connectors so if you have more that that their is a reset/connect button on the back you push and it connects you.
Is there a way to respond to people so that it shows up right under their message? I’m using an iPhone and when I reply to a given person, it puts my response at the bottom of the thread versus under their response.
