Caution when you clean your aids

I have aids with custom moulds and periodically detach the aids to wash the tubes and moulds ( not the aids themselves).

I had been in the habit of putting them to dry before reassembly on a window sill on tissue, simply because it was a convenient place. A few months ago the aids wouldn’t switch on and I was alarmed when I realised that they had overheated in the sun (unusual in the UK) and started to think of the cost of replacing them.

Fortunately, they returned to working condition after cooling down but it’s a lesson I’ve learned!

Yes, I’m aware of that, I just didn’t close the blind enough and it was overnight in December. I’m impressed and relieved that the (Oticon Engage) aids recovered.

After washing silicon molds with soap and water, clean it with tissue will do. Or wipe it with alcohol wipe and let it air dry. For , the hearing tube will shrink a bit. You can request for 2.0mm x 3.1mm so it stay tight in the molds.

Thanks for the tip. I generally rinse well in cold water and leave to dry overnight. I hadn’t realised that the tubes can shrink. I’ve found that 3.1mm OD tubes are loose in my moulds when new so I have to use 3.5/3.6 OD tubes which are sometimes described as ‘Extra thick’.

Probably by chance, but it seems that the tubes preformed into an ‘R’ shape are the thinner (3.1mm) and those with a single ‘U’ bend are thicker and correct for my moulds and don’t need that extra kink! I have to search a bit but the single bend 3.5mm tubes are around.
