Phonak says their adaptive digital contrast fitting provides greater benefit for severe / profound loss because it preserves parts of the speech signal people with these losses use for understanding.
The difference is supposed to result from fast versus slow attack and release times for adaptive digital and adaptive digital contrast, respectively.
Would someone in the know be kind enough to explain why a slow attack / release is better for more severe loss? I’m a lay person about this engineering. And thank you all in advance! I’m experimenting with both as I program my and I think the adaptive digital contrast may produce clearer-sounding speech for me.
