Sorry if this has already been answered, but is the KS9 locked (if purchased in Canada). Can it be self-programmed using Phonak Target software?

Haven’t heard the answer to that question yet. From reading past posts on this forum I would bet they will be. Shouldn’t be long and we will all know.

I picked up my KS9’s about 3 weeks ago and specifically asked the Costco audiologist if they were locked to Costco software and she said no. I don’t have any way to prove or disprove this as I don’t do self-programing but with the luck I am having it may be to my benefit to start.

My wife has the KS9 aids. I bought a Noahlink Wireless thinking it would program them and my Audeo B90 aids but was wrong. So I asked to cancel the buy. The seller agreed. Someone else will know soon enough.

The HiPro has done all Phonak aids I have owned for the past 10 years but the KS9 aids are only, Noahlink Wireless or Airlink 2. For now Costco does a great job so I can wait.

I got my KS9 2+ weeks ago and have not needed any other program yet. Bluetooth streaming will add itself if you use it. I wll want to adjust the volumes and mix for bluetooth. (android) It is a personal decision as to what may be best for you. For example I had a program o n my KS8 for driving my truck. (no ) It lowered the left ear to reduce wind noise. I had the same setup on the KS9 but have not used it. Auto is as good or better on it’s own.
Note what you have less than optimal hearing as there my be a program or setting that may help your use case.

Don2 has given you good information.
Sometimes it’s best to start with no additional manual programs. Give it a few weeks and then see if additional programs are needed.
My goal is zero additional programs. Let the aids do their job and enjoy.

Got my KS9 nearly a month ago. Specialist said no point in adding additional programs, since the automatic programming does the switching. He said additional programs only if I encountered specific problems. (He also told me the KS9s are “closed” for those who have been asking…) Don2 and Raudrive confirm the programming advice. I’m very happy, so far. I manage Bluetooth from my phone (android) settings. It works just great.

My wife went in to Costco today to get her aids adjusted, cleaned and any needed maintenance done. She was impressed that Costco did a thorough cleaning, replaced the and replaced the ear locks. She didn’t ask for a thing.
We talked on the phone when she was driving going to and coming from Costco. She said I was coming in loud and clear. I was on the Compilot2 Bluetooth on my end. She came in pretty clear to me. There were a few times I had to ask her to repeat herself. Understand I am almost deaf. There was another time I could hear some background noise. She said it was loud road construction going on. I could understand her even during that background noise. She has the iPhone 8 Plus.

I need to decide within a couple of months if I should replace my KS8s with KS9s. I’m delighted to learn that the KS9 auto programs are as good as the manual ones as reported in the other replies.
I haven’t had much luck with auto programs in general. In my experience, the manual programs worked better and usually significantly better. The Oticon I had several years ago came with auto programs only. I didn’t find them beneficial. The Phonak Brio HAs that I replaced the Oticons with were equipped with both and their manual programs (controlled via the Compilot) outshone the auto ones by a mile (or a kilometre in our
units). My experience with the KS8s is relatively short. Again, their manual ones are far more useful. Particularly “Cafe”, “Group Conversation” and “i360” beat the auto ones hands down.

I had my followup appointment for KS9s yesterday at Costco. I was a little disappointed that they were still using Target 6.02. Isn’t Target up to version 6.1 or 6.2 now? I knew it was a long shot but I was hoping that there was a chance for a firmware update to enable more than one device to be connected.

Thanks for this update. I have been curious about this too. Target is 6.1 now. I have a feeling we will learn more about this in a short while.

About the Target update to 6.1, I asked about this when I was in Costco last week and was told the software individual costco fitters use is served from a central server, one per location. Fitter said one day when they will come in, it will be updated. When, no one knows.
