Hi everyone,
I just picked up my new custom silicone SlimTips for my Sennheiser Sonite R (Phonak Lumity) hearing aids from Costco. I have narrow ear canals that bend sharply outward, and I am running into two classic fit issues right away:
-
Left Ear: The mold feels very shallow and blunt. It fails to snake past my canal’s outward bend, causing it to wobble and slide out when I chew or talk, resulting in immediate whistling/feedback. The retention canal lock tail hovers in the air and doesn’t even make flush contact with my concha skin.
-
Right Ear: It fits a bit deeper but still looking a the picture does not seem to go into the actual ear cannel very far. Originally caused an intense, deep-voiced plugged sensation (occlusion) because a tiny bit of earwax completely blocked the small built-in vent path. Blowing it out helped, but the tip still feels too blunt.
My ears are currently resting and healing from the soreness caused by the left mold. I plan to utilize Costco’s 90-day warranty window next week to request a total remake.
I am considering two major changes and would love the forum’s advice:
-
Material: Moving from high-friction soft silicone to slick hard acrylic to help the mold slide past my sharp canal bend smoothly.
-
Method: Finding a local San Diego Costco equipped with a 3D digital ear scanner (like Otoscan) instead of doing traditional manual putty impressions, hoping it handles my narrow, bending anatomy better without distorting the tissue.
For those with narrow or sharply curving canals:
Did a digital scan give you a better, deeper-seating fit on the first try compared to putty impressions? Has anyone successfully switched from silicone to hard acrylic SlimTips to solve the “chewing slide-out” issue?
Does anyone know if Costco does digital scanning?
Thanks for any insights!
