Is it not enabled by default? As far as I remember you stop/start the several times quickly in a row until you hear double startup-bongs.

Hi, all,
Seems like a lot of people have asked for a link to Phonak Target on this thread. I’m a 20-year hearing aid wearer as well as a part time audio engineer and musician, and I’ve wanted for a very, very long time to be able to make my own adjustments. I was optimistic, with the new remote support feature in the MyPhonak app, that I’d be able to at least avoid trips to the audiologist, but my audiologist prefers seeing me in person. So, so much for that. But with the newer platforms no longer requiring any extra hardware to connect since they’re Bluetooth all the way, it seems like it’d be no problem to get the software and make my own small tweaks. I’m guessing that there are still a couple of folks on this thread who are willing to share the latest version of Target with well-intended users like myself. Would anyone be so kind as to share with me? I promise that nobody, especially not my audiologist or Phonak, will learn of me getting the software.
Thanks very much!

I’m sure someone will send you a link in a PM.
But your audiologist will know if you change anything in your yourself because the fitting software will say there is a mismatch between the date in their database and the date in your HAs. If you deny everything, they will just use that data from their database and your changes will be lost.
Best thing to do is to be honest with what you are doing and why and you will probably find that your audiologist is relaxed about it as long as what you are doing makes sense. That’s what I found anyway.

Hi everybody,
I got the Phonak marvel hearing aid some month ago but my audiologist is not really available for a correct fit, (two months to have a 1h session), I build and design speaker thus I have great understanding of how to fit my own hearing aid, that would really help me if I could get my hand on the Phonak target software and tweaks it to my need
Hope somebody can help me here.
Thanks !

Thanks, David. I suspected he would know if I made changes. And I had considered letting him know that I was making my own changes, too. Considering how many times I’ve been back to him for program tweaks, let alone having to have them remade twice by Phonak because they didn’t fit right and were feeding back, he’d probably be relieved. One question is how do I explain to him how I was making changes since non-audiologists aren’t supposed to have access to the software? Feels like that’d be skating on thin ice.

I think you just say, oh I got it from a friend who does his own programming. And say you don’t know where he got it. So just be pleasant, not defensive and don’t panic. That sort of thing!
With GN Resound the software is on a website and anyone can download it if they know where to go. So when I told my audiologist that I had bought the NoahLink Wireless, she said “I can’t give you the fitting software!”. I said don’t worry I already downloaded that from Resound.
The other thing I said was that I was sitting listening to music on my HiFi and adjusting the music setting to get the sound right. I said I was doing maybe six sessions per evening for a couple of weeks. She could see that I was saving her a lot of short appointments (which are all free under my contract with her).

That’s excellent advice, thanks. I’ve already mentioned to him many times how I obviously don’t get a realistic idea of how things sound when sitting in his quiet office, and coming home to a noisy house quickly gives me a more real world evaluation. He already knows that I’ve been using the MyPhonak app to tweak programs in-between appointments to figure out what sounds good and let him know what I needed. For some reason, when I got the new aids, he said he didn’t think the app was useful. The custom program edits alone has made it worth it for me. Unfortunately, when I asked him to adjust things down “one click” at my last appointment to match what I did in the app, he did, but his one click didn’t match one click from the app. Phonak tells me that one click in the app is 3db. My audiologist didn’t know what one click was in the software, and Phonak indicates that it varies depending on how he did the change. His solution was to have me come back in and try again rather than first researching the change which struck me as odd.
So, yes, I think your approach is very reasonable, David. This is my first pair of hearing aids from this audiologist and, while I like him a lot, if he doesn’t like me making my own edits, then perhaps I should find someone else. I believe you’re right that the vast majority of audiologists are comfortable with this if they think the wearer has a clue about sound. The wearer can get what they want and save a lot of no-charge appointments.
BTW, thanks for mentioning that the Resound fitting software is freely available to those who know where to find it. I’m seriously considering, after 20 years of wearing Phonaks, trying a different brand next time. This particular round with Phonak has been slightly less than stellar, and I’ve been unsure if that was the aids, the company, or the auiologist. Nothing wrong with trying something new, and plenty of helpful eople in this forum to recommend which brands to trust and which brands to avoid. Thanks again.
