Do Phillips Aids Have The Same Technology As Oticon

I have 5 year old Oticon OPN2 aids that are rock solid, never returned to the seller after placing them in my ears! I just had a hearing test at Costco yesterday and was told the Phillips aids are made by Oticon. I can hear clearly with my OPNs in all directions and wish to replace them with aids that work like the OPNs with the “brain hearing technology”!

I don’t know how long my present aids will keep going, so if I have to replace them, I would like to replace them with an Oticon type product! So, my question is:

Is the Philips similar to the Oticon OPNs “brain hearing technology”, I like the price point of the Phillips aids!

Welcome to the community @Billf . I’m not able to answer your question, there are plenty of knowledgeable members of the forum who can. Just to say, I am being fitted with the Philips this coming Wednesday.They are made by Demant group who also make Oticon.

I have compared the specifications and thy seen to be a 100% match. However they may have downgraded some functions to reduce the price but can’t tell from the specs. I don’t understand how Costco can offer them for that price and it looks like the market is seriously overpriced.

A set of Oticons Intents including charger cost 4700 euros (over 5000 USD) in the Netherlands and HA’s from Philips (a company from the Netherlands) are not for sale here. I smell a rat :thinking:

If you are located in Netherlands you would be able to order the Philips 9050 at MySecondEar.nl , they sell the 9050 for €6.780 per pair (single aid €3390)

1500 USD / 1600 Euros abroad vs 6780 euros (excluding charger) in own (manufacturers) country!!!

Yes, both are made by the same company.

Anyhow, this has been discussed before, and the consensus is that the software is completely different between the Oticon and the Philps.

So if you want the software with the “brain hearing tech” then buy the Oticon.

@Billf is asking how the Philips 9050 compares with the Opn, not with the latest offerings from Oticon like the Intent. He seems to be very happy with Opn.

I’ve bought new aids every 3-5 years since 2010. The improvements have amazed me. The aids still are only aids, but each new pair has been much better than the last one.

If you’re close to a Costco, it won’t cost anything but time to check the 9050s out - and you’ll get a free hearing test, assuming you’re a member.

Although now superseded by the newer SoundMap 3 in the HearLink 9050 soundmap 2 in Philips HearLink 9040 hearing aids also benefits from Demant’s “ Sound” and “BrainHearing” technologies and is designed to improve your ability to understand speech in noisy settings.

I’m coming back to this forum after a long time away and see that there has been a lot of movement in the technologies, esp. with speech in noise. I’m confused by this long thread as to which model is which and their capabilities. So let me restate what I think I see and maybe someone can comment on it’s correctness.

***Phonak’s Audeo Sphere Infinio has a well received speech in noise feature.

***Demant Group makes both the Phillips Hearlink 9050 with SoundMap3 and Oticon Intent

***Both of those listed immediately above have a version of “ Sound” and “Brain Hearing” designed to improve speech comprehension in noise.

***There is an extreme variation in the price of the Phillips and Oticon models and they are higher priced in Europe, whereas they are lower priced at CostCo in the US (???)

My own aids, for a severe loss have vented custom ear molds and are about ten year old Phonaks. I was looking at a used pair of Phonak Naida Paradise P90s for about $1000, but I wondered if I could get any of the above aids for less than $1800 for the pair…or should I wait a year or two for them to come down in price?

The Phillips Hearlink 9050 and the Oticon Intent use the identical hardware, but the firmware is different. There has been a lot of discussion on just how different but nobody really knows. The Phillips is $1,500 at Costco in the US. Costco has begun selling the Sennheiser Sonite at some stores in Washington and Oregon and on the East Coast for $1,599. These appear to the same as the Phonak Lumity 90. The Phonak Infinio Sphere is the new Phonak aid with the new sound reducing chip which seems to work well for most. It is not know when or if it will be offered at Costco

The Philips HearLink 9050 appears to be more similar to the Encanta from Bernafon, another Demant brand. However, long story short, if you are familiar with Oticon processing and you are going between Costco offerings, Philips would be the closest to what you are already familiar with.
