Dome help - newb!

Hi everyone. I’m 22 years old and have received my first hearing aid after having hearing loss in my right ear all my life.

I’ve got a Signia Active IX. However I’m struggling with the fit. I’m getting feedback, with a whistle that’s driving me crazy, it feels loose but not loose enough to fall out, and my inner ear is getting sweaty. I’ve got a perforated eardrum from birth so I want to try and keep it as dry as possible.

Would any experts here be able to guide me as to what domes I should look to try? I’ve currently got Signia 3.0 Vented sleeve.

Hi there, ok so you need the sleeve dome to be a tight fit, don’t want sounds leaking out past the dome to cause feedback, also make sure your ear is clear of any wax build up, possibly the perforated eardrum I wonder?

I had the Signia Active Pro hearing aid a while back. I noticed that it’s quite sensitive to feedback because the microphones are positioned very close to the ear canal. Interestingly, I can use open domes with my other aids, but I got feedback with the vented domes (with my Active Pros) around the 4Khz frequency.

The next step is to try . If you change the domes, your audiologist will need to re-tune the hearing aids because the acoustics change when you switch to a different dome type.

For me, I didn’t want to use closed domes so I sold mine on eBay.

Thank you. I’ll try and possibly some bigger sizes and see how it goes. I love the but if the feedback stays like this I doubt I can keep it!

I think you’ve got some good feedback here. I would just add that they have a concha retainer that provides additional stability for the hearing aid. You can google signia concha retainer to find out more. I use them and they help but still not perfect. My domes will wiggle out slightly after awhile but never to the point where I get feedback.

“Concha retainer”? Is that what that’s called? I had them on my 11-yr-old Starkey Muses, I just called them “tails”. :slight_smile: Anyway, I recently had Costco add them to my new Rexton Reaches, because the domes were just not staying in place. Problem solved.
