Hi there. I’ve just been trialling my first over the last 6 weeks, and have now fallen foul of a very nasty middle ear infection in both ears. This is pretty rare for me, I had one 4 years ago in one ear (around the time I lost my hearing
) and before that, maybe only as a child.
The consultant said that my ear drums looked “very dry” - what does that mean? If anything I’d expect HAs to have introduced more moisture to the ear.
I know it’s a middle ear infection so not so obviously connected with HAs but I can’t believe there’s no connection. I’ve really been struggling to find the correct fitting dome/sleeve, so there has been a lot of poking about in my ears and unsureness of whether I’m pushing too deep or not deep enough, and I’m sure this has to some extent contributed to this flare-up and infection. (No I still haven’t found the right sizing- the infection kicked-in and nothing could find space in the canal anymore.)
One very useful bit of info the doc told me - and no audi has ever bothered to mention -is that my two ear canals are vastly different in size so trying to find one sleeve that would fit both is a futile effort. (Please healthcare professionals, if you notice something notable about your patients’ anatomy, tell them - I’ve never seen inside my own ear!)
Whilst with this infection I’m going to have to go without aids, but I also feel wary about repeating this, so when I do wear them again, I want to avoid any errors that may have contributed. Any thoughts?
