Finally, an Equalizer that really works with streaming

About a year ago, I downloaded the Wavelet App486 to my android smartphone.
It automatically pre-sets the eq for over 2700 different models of headphones.
If yours aren’t on the list, you can use the graphic eq to create one to your liking.
I created one based on my for a pair of IEM’s that weren’t on the list, but my high freq. loss was bad enough that I need my ’s to enjoy the full range.

This AM, I was working out, and used my Oticon ConnectClip to stream some Spotify stuff.
Not realizing that the Wavelet app was running (don’t remeber when i turned it on), but the sound was really nice, especially the upper frequencies.
I looked down at the phone and realized the app was running,and was quite impressed.
It works on android at system level, without the need to root your phone!
I have no connection to the dev who created it, but I believe it’s worth looking in to.
Oh yeah, the basic app is free, no ads, either.

Did I understand correctly, it covers the complete phone output, and is not a player which then can modify only music from it?

If yes, it’s definitely worth trying :slight_smile:

A quick rundown on each feature and its settings

Legacy mode is turned off by default, because features will become available in Wavelet whenever an application notifies the operating system about music playback starting by sending a broadcast.
Spotify, YT music, Shuttle, Phonograph, Google Play Music and many more music players send a broadcast, thus features in Wavelet will show up.
Some players like Poweramp, Neutron, Musicolet, BlackPlayer and Deezer require additional configuration.
Tidal, Pandora, YouTube, Soundcloud, Qobuz, VLC, Plexamp, foobar2000 and most music applications that came preinstalled on your phone, do not send a broadcast. Therefore no features will show up. You can try enabling legacy mode and see if your device allows Wavelet to process your music in this mode. Legacy might work, depending on your device manufacturer’s audio framework implementation.
You will have to experiment with legacy mode and see what works best.

Since my post, the dev has released another update, so it is covering more headphones.

Well, here is my deal: I have a cheap prepaid android phone with no service on wifi in my bathroom. I use it to listen to the bible through the youverse app, played via bluetooth into a waterproof bluetooth speaker in my shower. I don’t have my hearing aids in (in the shower, of course) plus it is an “extra bass” speaker, so overall it sounds kind of muffled and I have to have it blasting to understand it. Hoping perhaps this program will run on the cheap android phone and allow me to crank up the treble for the bible app. Have not found anything else that can do this.

The Wavelet app was not available on the play store for me. Probably because my cheap phone is so old. But I did download a free app called Equalizer FX102 which works just great. Treble boosted, bass down, I can understand my bluetooth speaker again without my aids in.

How did you translate the to equalizer settings? An example would be great. Such as my right prescription at 4000 Hz is 55 on my audiogram. What is the setting on the equalizer? How did you deal with differences between your ears?

I am new to hearing aids. I am an android user, but I recently bought a used iPhone X and AirPod Pros to work as a backup hearing aid. In the process, I found this pair to work better than my hearing aids for music. Now I am searching for something for Android. They also connect to Widex Moments directly for streaming. However, the sound through my hearing aids is not as good as with the AirPod Pros.

Regardless, My Bose Soundsport Wireless sound better through the Wavelet APP sounds. Thank you for the suggestion.

I have Widex Moments and found that the default settings for streaming audio through these was poor.
I was listening to Audible audtio books via my Bose headphones on an iPad and when I switched to using an iPhone and my Moment HAs to listen to the same Audible book the reader’s voice was dull and flat. I had to do tweaking via the limited equaliser in the Moment iOS app to get some richness back into the reader’s voice.
I would like very much to find an equaliser-only app for iOS that I could use - the ones I have found so far either have inbuilt players that must be used or else have a subscription charge model.

The rule of thumb is if wearing over ear headphones WITH your hearing aids on, set the EQ to the inverse of your . The opposite holds true if NOT wearing your aids.

Unfortunately the EQ does not have separate Right & Left channels, so if you have a major difference, you’d need a stereo eq program.

Paul, I don’t have Apple, so i can’t tell you about any apps, but if you do a search using the tool at the top right of the page, I’m sure you’ll find pleny of suggestions.

’s are not optimized for music, Audible books should sound ok.
As you’ve learned, using the Widex eq helps, but you may wish to have your audiologist check your streaming settings, or use a more occlusive dome, or earmold.

I generally listen to media through my aids, but for serious listening, I’ll put my Over the ear headphones on with my hearing aids in.

I’m using an oticon TV streamer from my tv audio to my oticon hearing heads. I use the oticon android phone app to connect and control aids/streamer. Will Wavelet work with that combination ?

Hi marc, and welcome to the community!

Which model of Oticon’s do you use?

If the OPN S, or More you should get an equalizer when streaming with the Oticon On app.

I’ve not used the TV Adaptor, but have streamed from my ConnectClip, and was able to use the Wavelet app.

Since the update Oticon put out recently for the ON ap, I don’t use Wavelet when streaming.

Wavelet’s a free download, so give it a try.
