First time hearing aid user - spares?

Hoping people can offer some advice. I am a newbie to the world of hearing aids and currently have a pair of Phonak i90 spheres (been using them for three weeks now).

I’ve been able to fine tune them and more importantly get rid of that awful feedback - big thank you to TenKan for giving me the Target software!

I travel a lot so I’ve got a nice phonak case and spare packs of domes/.

Anything else I should have? Do I need spare receiver wires or do they not tend to stop working?

As for cleaning, how do I clean the mics? Just with a soft brush?

I’ve ordered a pack of the new easyguard domes to see how I find those as I do get very waxy ears so I can hopefully cut down on the wax filters.

In your case, to be a bit future proof, I’d have a spare pair of receivers. In previous Phonaks, they’re prone to suddenly fail. I’ve read of issues with the newer ones too.

I wonder if the new wax free Easy Guard domes will work for you. They sound promising.

Keeping your aids clean and dry is important. If you sweat a lot or are in a humid environment a hearing aid dryer might be a good idea.

Since you are doing self programming a cheap pair of used back up aids would be nice too.

That was a few years ago (3 maybe?) Now have 30/35db loss in both ears. Spent most of my life working in noisy environments/heavy machinery etc. without hearing protection!

I’m not sure how accurate the first one was. It was done on an iPad at specsavers and was more of a quick screen than a full .

In terms of what to always have in a “kit” for users: it does depend on one’s ability to get on without wearing them, but since my own audiogram is sweepin’ the floor, I literally need two IDENTICAL pairs of aids to be set up IDENTICALLY in Target.

I currently wear Phonak Lumity Life 312s, so I have them in Precious Pink and Caribbean Pirate. I can swap in either pair in a second and am automatcally paired + connected to my Android phone. I DO have to go through a bit of yada yada to get them connected for streaming with the Roger On In mic, but that typically takes just two attempts to connect if I swap them back and forth.

I have zero margin for hearing anything without aids in, and have found over the decades of just buying ONE new pair and sending the existing pair down the food chain, they never sounded the same, had the same program lineup or even FIT the same. Those days are gone.

I’m thinking that you also know that some receivers need a pin device to RELEASE the wire + speaker from the “bean” that goes behind the ear? Cuz my 312s still need that pin; newer ones or different models may allow a person to just yank a receiver from the “bean” where the wire is attached to it. Not my pair of 312s tho.

Actually with I probably have much better hearing than his .

I worked around large noisy equipment too and used hearing protection the later years exclusively.

Yeah, I’m only just “dipping” my toes in the water from a hearing loss perspective. I’m sure a lot of people would give their left arm for my !

the i90 spheres are a “yank” the receiver wire out and hope for the best!

I’ve picked up some phonak cleaning wipes, can’t I just use some alcohol wipes? Phonak say not to, but in their instructions for professionals it says to clean with alcohol wipes when swapping out trial aids!

Be careful yanking the receiver wires out of Spheres. It is posdible to break the wire by applying force in the wrong direction and then you have the connector stuck in the which is very difficult to exract (ask me how i know). Watch the videos and think through the process before you attempt it.

If they’re rechargeables, don’t forget to take the charger and charger cords with you. Make sure that you have compatible adapters so you have plug compatibility for the charger cords in whatever country you’re traveling to.

OK, now I’m ENVIOUS of that!! I go in today to get my titanium ear molds for my 312s. Hoping they may give me a better seal AND not cause an allergic reaction.

Looking at your I’d use AirPods Pro 3 as spares if your an iPhone user in a supported region and they if they fit ok. Good pair of headphones too. I use them as a lot and works well for me. Test matched a professional one within a few db. Additional bonus - hearing protection.
