I have one MFI aid from Resound, Enzo 3D. It’s not hands free, I still have to pick up the phone and hold it out in front of my mouth. Even when I used the phone clip it wasn’t hands free, I still needed to hold that near my mouth.
The possibility for handsfeee MFI will not happen until this fall when IOS 15 Is released, and the hearing aid companies make the aids work with the new standards
I do have a question on handsfree. For those who have it (Phonak users?) how do you sound to the other party? I ask because it seems like the orientation of the mic(s) aren’t directed or designed to capture your voice to the degree of people speaking towards you. Even AirPods have a mic oriented towards your mouth. Is handsfree a solid solution over talking towards your phone’s mic?
@eskie227, Never had a real problem so far with hands free on the Paradise aids, even in the car or my van, although occasionally for me, sometimes much is dependent on the voice on the other end, also what quality of cellphone they use can have an impact on my ability to hear exactly what is being said, VOIP calls can be a bit of a hit or miss? But, most of the time 'tis perfect… In comparison to the Marvels, there does not appear to be any problem of the other caller hearing me, with the Marvels, moderate to loud background noise could be troublesome for the other caller, moving to a quieter spot usually resolved this… Cheers Kev.
I’ll be able to answer that tomorrow. However, on my end, I don’t have a problem with it. But I’ll check by listening thru the ’s and then the iPhone and give you my totally subjective experience.
I would like to say, once more, that the way I can use speech to text with iMessage is with Siri. All other apps (with the exception of FB Chat) work fine with STT.
If the new MFI overcomes the STT, that’d be great. But for now, my P30’s (soon to be swapped for P70’s) are as close to true hands free as I could ask for.
That’s encouraging to know. I always question claims of one product doing everything well. But if is a hands free solution that truly works then it’s well worth having if you are a frequent phone call user.
As for how the other caller, in this case on a landline, hears me speaking hands-free on the P30’s …
She said it’s similar to hearing someone that’s using the ‘speaker phone’ function. Clear but had that tinny aspect. When I switched to the iPhone mic, she said it sounded better, more like one would expect.
Lol… oticon and phonak are so not the same.
But the current phonak paradise series are afaik the only real handsfree calling possibility here because they use classic bluetooth.
By real handsfree, i also mean without other device needed. This feature actually is one of the biggest plusses of phonak and it took me a while to decide to let go in favor of oticon.
