Does anybody have any information about the Melody A3 from Hearing Aids Central? At $895 each, they appear to be very much cheaper than other aids with comparable specifications.
Thanks

Hello Fpoldy:
I am the CEO of www.hearingaidscentral.com24. Because we manufacture our hearing aids here in the USA and we only sell over the Internet, we can afford to sell them a lower price. Since we introduced th Melody models in 2006 we have sold over 24,000 of them. The vast majority of our customers have been very happy with the quality and sound of the Melody hearing aids and the only returns we have been asked to take back have been when a customer did not provide an , and their hearing loss was too great for the hearing aid to rectify.
Please call us toll free if you have any questions: 877-611-4636.

Let me get this straight, you sold a $900 instrument to people who did not have an ???

Zafdor…
I’m NOT taking sides either way, but…, the web site has the following written on it, ie:
“The ’s are pre-set at the factory for the most common hearing loss curves but will be customized if you provide an .”
In addition it also says, ie:
“We will custom program your hearing aids for your unique hearing loss free of charge - just send us an audiogram (hearing test results) before or after you order.”
From my way of thinking, the company has given the buyer the option. If the buyer doesn’t want to take advantage of it, then I don’t think they have any right to complain. I know I wouldn’t buy without my HA’s being adjusted to my particular hearing loss… but then some people might.

Wow, I went to your website, and you have obviously greatly over-exaggerated your fitting ranges. As an audiologist, I know that most, if not all, companies can fit true ‘open’ styles of hearing aids, up to 70-75dB in the higher freqs, though none truly get close.
Your statement: “Covers most hearing losses up to 110dB and up to 8000Hz” is misleading. Your OSPL 90 HF avg is only 107…not even loud enough to touch a 110 hearing loss (which you probably should not be amplifying anyways).
In order for you to be able to amplify 8kHz, you would have to sample at a high rate. Can you tell us what rate you sample at?
You say you have 4 channels, but then define channels as memory settings…that’s misleading.
You call it the “look ahead detection” - how can anyone predict any types of sounds? “Checks micro-seconds ahead for loud sounds and dampens them so they don’t affect the wearer.” Give me a break!!!
No ??? “strongly recommend” is not satisfactory.
As I peruse the 2008, 2009, and 2010 Consumer’s Guide to Hearing Aids, I don’t see one mention of Melody hearing aids… what does that tell you???
24000 hearing aids? In my professional opinion as a provider and a consumer of hearing aids, I will warn anybody out there to NOT use this company. If they’re misleading us now, what will happen later on? This is probably a fly-by-night company from someone who thought they could make a quick buck.
Cheers.

To dampen the gain AHEAD of loud transient sounds… what the heck?! Isn’t that the same as predicting the future?!
I’m wondering if that “look ahead” function could be programmed to look ahead to the next lottery numbers

Hello Frank:
As an audiologist you seem to be uninformed of the technology of our Melody hearing aids. I’ll address your comments in order:

This is being unfair. Many hearing aids can already do this.

24000 hearing aids?
I can believe this.
I once worked with an Asian hearing aid company, testing one of their new designs.
Over a meal, the CEO mentioned how many units of low end pre-programmed aids they sold each year … I nearly fell off my chair … the numbers were HUGE!

www.hearingaidscentral.com plans to be in business many years into the future. We have invested many hundreds of thousands of dollars into manufacturing and distribution costs, and for you to call us “fly-by-night” is laughable.
Update: www.hearingaidscentral.com2 no longer exists. Audiology win!

Not so fast, lilywhite. FYI, www.hearingaidscentral.com6 and www.hearingcentral.com4 are still alive and well! Unfortunately, in 2012, the founder Phil Wyatt passed away and the company continued operations until January 1, 2014. For a short time, the company and website were closed, but in July 2014 it was resurrected to continue its original mission of providing high-quality, low-cost hearing aids to clients from all across the U.S. and others across the world, from Iceland to New Zealand. I’m sorry to read of your animosity towards online retailers, but we fill a niche that you never will and likely never would want to fill - helping those who either haven’t the budget or won’t spend the thousands charged at brick-and-mortar retailers, and audiology centers. We are not working against you, but are often just warming up your buyers for future purchases of more expensive technologies. I wish you success in your own audiology practice and hope your 2015 is a great success for you and your valuable clients!
All my best,
