Hearing in noisy environments

One month in and I’m happy with my NHS Stretta ha for listening to tv and one or two people. I’ve only got mild hearing loss but am I being over optimistic in hoping to be able to hear a little better when in a noisy situation? If I turn up the sound, things are louder, not clearer although I can hear the rustle of a crisp packet across a crowded room! This was one of the problems initially described to the audiologist, but I don’t know if any adjustments are possible.

Maybe the only good thing Ive heard of . In noisy environments is almost intolerable for me. I end up turning them down so much as to make understanding improbable. My higher range is moderately severe (reverse slope type so as lower you go, better to normal at lowest range) but the speech banana is almost entirely outside without the aids. I dont know about your aids but complex environment is difficult at best from my limited experience. Maybe your brain needs more time to adjust? Others here know much about this subject.

@Um_bongo Thanks for that comment regarding stereo listening necessary for complex hearing environments. My left ear is in the severe loss range and my otherwise good hearing aid, Oticon Real 3, is just about useless in a noisy environment. My right ear is fine with the hearing aid, but the left ear is not.
