How do I find a good audiologist?

… or at least an audiologist who is willing to listen, patiently explain my wrong ways to me, and help choose the right with the right fit?

Ideally one who’d work with HAs from Costco - i.e. refit them for me? Is it even possible? If not, I’ll try justifying 3-5x the costs - but it’ll be tough.

An independent audiologist may work with them. Those that are at offices are usually independent (not affiliated with a manufacturer.)

KS 9s are unlocked and can be programmed with Phonak Target software by any audiologist.

It is unlikely (I’m not saying impossible) that an independent audiologist will want to touch a Costco device. Why not go to Costco and get them adjusted ? Did you have a bad experience with Costco ?

Also, (looking at your other thread), you need custom molds. Costco does those. They will be occluding as well, but can have a vent that makes them less so.

Also, whether you apply custom molded or a dome, your hearing aids need to be completely refit with both the fitting software and real ear measurement, as the parameters are drastically different than with an open dome.

Thank you. How do I find one in my area? Call all of them, ask if they’d work with Costco , ask for a quote for a test and a fit? I.e. if there any sort of registry of audiologists who don’t just look at the the but listen to what works for you and attempt to strike a balanced approach?

The other thread mentioned that I’ve tried those with negative results.

I appreciate that audiologists are going by the book: “is this your ? Custom molds, end of story.” - yet this seems to ignore the quality of life factor with respect to disorientation and occlusion. Life isn’t just about , even if it’s a huge part of it.

Thank you. There’s one within reasonable distance that I’ve already been in touch with a few years ago. Back then, they quoted an $800 “fitting fee” to work with hearing aids I source myself. That’s an “ouch” - a no go out of the gate. :expressionless_face: ($200-400 I could work with.)

Find a Costco aud that is qualified. There is a FB group for Costco aids… you might find someone there that comes well recommended.

(Geographically perhaps it doesn’t fully match - but in some other respects there’s a lot of overlap… Both are proud nations with a lot of history and a common neighbor with long arms…)

I’ve lucked out I think although it’s been taking a lot of time running around between 3 Costcos trying different hearings aids - in addition to AirPod Pros. In two of them (Pacoima, Burbanks) the audiologists have been good to me. In the one closest to home (Woodland Hills) - didn’t have a good experience. Hope you find a good one, too.
