Background:
I have and Phonak Audeo Sphere Infinio I70s.
Over a month of in-church experiences, on 7 different hearing programs in myPhonak, I've accumulated well over 100 data points around these 7.
They cover these areas/"programs:"
Automatic
Music (A)
Restaurant
Music (B)
TV
Music 1
Music 2
The reason for all the music identities has been either the aids or the environment in my church and own-voice experience. I've been, by mutual agreement, ejected from the choir, as I can no longer reliably hear tones which haven't been altered via whatever magic happens in my aids, nor my own voice WITH that music.
Most of these have been tweaked in one or more prior visits, and, finally, out of desperation, Music 2 was stripped of all enhancements - pure sound. But in THAT one (the biggest issue - the percussive nature of piano tones caused frequency shifts, in an attempt to protect my hearing, the piano, according to my audiologist, was highly compressed in all the others), and - now - all the others, I heard little of the music (others singing around me), and could not accurately place my own voice tone in it.
As I've been in choirs since I was 6 or so, this is beyond discouraging. Sitting in far-rear, center and up-front locations in pews in our very-large/mostly-empty (the church has a remaining very small, mostly elderly, congregation from what previously took 3 floors of classrooms merely to accommodate Sunday School) sanctuary, and as far away as possible from the piano in the small (typical 10-15 max members) rehearsal space yielded VERY different effects to my ears.
So:
I took to recording the experience in each location and "hearing programs" by name and volume for every form of need: amplified and unamplified speech, accompanied choral pieces, piano or organ stand-alone pieces, one-on-one in any environment (home, in a store, in general conversation) and in groups (around a table at fellowship post-service, or during rehearsal), etc., e.g.
Now:
How to present that data simply and cogently so that the audiologist has some chance of tweaking my existing programs, winnowing the multiple music choices, and, perhaps, adding different stand-alone (inside the myPhonak list) hearing programs set up to address my realities?
For example, the "Restaurant" setting is pretty much OK - anything not directly in front of me is squelched, and I can understand my wife directly across from me. But I can't hear the wait staff at all.
However, a wrinkle:
As a hack, having had very good success with my prior Beltone and their MyPalPro microphone, I bought a RogerOn. Turning it on initiates a new program - "Mic" - which is all well and good; and - as far as I can tell - is 'flat'/no compression. BUT... Several times, I've turned on myPhonak to find most of my "programs" to also have "+ Mic" appended to those names, showing up as (added) new Hearing Programs. I have no idea how those might benefit me, nor how to initiate them, as they show up independently and randomly, and energizing Roger makes them disappear.
But that's a side issue. The issue is how to make some simple sense of all those data points in a meaningful fashion for my audiologist...
YIKES!!
