If your Phonak hearing aids play a loud ding when you start or stop voice dictation (Siri microphone button), here’s the fix. The trick is understanding that these tones don’t follow the normal iPhone volume rules.
Why the slider doesn’t work
The Ringer & Alerts slider in Settings → Sounds & Haptics does not control the dictation tones when:
• Silent Mode is ON, and
• You’re streaming to hearing aids.
In this situation, iOS ignores the alert slider completely. That’s why moving it left or right makes no difference.
What actually controls the ding volume
The dictation tones follow the iPhone’s system volume, not the alert volume.
How to lower it
- Make sure nothing is playing (no music, no video, no call).
- Press the physical volume down button on the side of the iPhone.
- Lower it to the level you want.
- Now start dictation — the ding will be quieter.
This is the only volume control iOS applies to those tones when streaming to hearing aids.
To totally eliminate any Dings or Dongs when using Dictation you can go into the myPhonak app Devices/Streaming/Bluetooth streaming and turn it off. But if you want to listen to Music via or talk on the phone or WhatsApp or Facetime, etc. you will have to go back through the myPhonak app and turn BT back on.
