It is safe to directly brushes at microphone circuit when I open the hearing aid case for deep maintenances?

I search around the forum. It seems no one has asked this similar question (open the case and clean the inside of the ). It should obviously be left for professional care but I decide to because I have a little tool to do it.

I open the HAs case and look inside, use the camera zoom and see many wax oil messes. So I gently use cotton buds to absorb the oil then use a soft brush to remove as much of the wax as I can.

However, I avoid touching the microphone circuit. Is it safe to brush directly at it?

I want to brush it like I brush my teeth to my heart’s content, but I avoid it and lightly brush on it instead.

Yeah, not so great if the circuit board and other components have been hydrophobic nano-coated to prevent sweat ingress. Given component fragility, weld-pad strength and ESD issues I’d seriously consider not engaging in ANY cleaning at all.

A little knowledge is…..

I’ve been doing it for like 20 years on many many , no problem at all, you don’t pour the stuff all over the circuit board, it’s just a dab on the cotton buds, you can’t vacuum with Jody, you need to break it down first, it works, plus I use 70% on the housing if needed as well.

The OP specifically said ‘brushing’.

A slight dab with a cotton bud in alcohol is a different matter. Though still not recommended with oloephobic coatings which don’t really like it.

I agree : alcohol can remove coatings if they are present and it can make some plastics brittle, especially polycarbonates

I use foam swabs with WD-40 specialist contacts cleaner (not the regular WD-40). This stuff is really good .

I didn’t apply any alcohol because I was afraid I would do more harm than good. Just plain brush and cotton buds here and there. Most oil and wax removed. Close.

I will consider special contact cleaner next time I open up and do deep clean maintenance.
