Landline/land line telecoil phone help?

Here’s what I learned and it has worked for me. We have landline phones at home just for that reason – t-coil. My first aids automatically connected to the coil whether on the phone or at a venue that was coiled. The current aids I have do not automatically connect. You have to select the connection. However, I learned that there is a very tiny battery that you place on the ear part of your landline which is supposed to automatically make the connection. I have the battery on all of our landline phones in the house. the coil works great. I can hear on those phones. Need to position the phone at your ear properly which I also found out. In my case the phone needs to be upright at my ear and a tad behind it. I have found that having the coil in my aids has helped me tremendousely. In church that is coiled, I hear perfectly everything and everybody. Etc for coiled venues. I’ve invested in a portable coil which can be taken to doctor’s offices, etc. Works great. Although coil is old tech, in Europe it’s the thing. It is not going away as some might say. BlueTooth is not better than or replacing the coil – nothing works as great as the coil. Church only has a few pews coiled and the “wire” runs right on the floor around those pews; wire is covered so there’s no worry about tripping, etc. No big deal doing the wire on the floor; it was just laid there! No major rennovation! All that stuff that places use as an excuse for not using the coil, are just that, excuses! It can be done easily. In oregon many grocery stores, etc. are coiled. Even a simple counter can be coiled! Once you use the coil, you’ll never want to go back. You can even coil your den! I’m a huge advocate. Nothing beats it! Don’t listen to the nay sayers. Push for the coil; should be in ALL hearing aids. Does not make the aid so much bigger and, if it does make it bigger, it’s better to hear than worry about something being a bit bigger! I could go on and on but I’ll stop for us!

When I got to the stage that I needed assistance with landlines, my AuD gave me small magnets to put on the hand piece of the landline. It’s been several years since I have used a landline phone. From memory the magnet were placed near the microphone on your HA. This simple solution worked well for me.

You should place the magnet on the rim of the landline phone’s earpiece, about a centimeter back from the holes where the sound comes out, to activate your hearing aid’s telecoil4. This allows the magnetic pick-up in your hearing aid to align with the inductive coupler4 (electromagnet) in the phone for a clear signal transfer. Experiment with the exact position and your hearing aid’s volume for the best sound quality.
