Hi, I am new here. This is my first post.
I started seeking out hearing aids a year ago. I had notso good experiences with inexpensive over the counter types and also realized I was going to loose my hearing medical benefit as of Jan 1st due to the current administration changes. So I bit the bullet and went to an audiologist and got tested/fitted for rather expensive hearing aids that my insurance partially covered. (better than nothing).
My experience has been relatively good with the combo (over and in) the ear type. However, background noise still presents a problem.
I’m on the east coast of the US and decided to visit my siblings on the west coast a week ago.
My flight experience was interesting and is as follows. Before take off, the stewardess handed out wired earbuds to be plugged into the personal video monitors. I removed my hearing aids, plugged in the wired hearing buds, and dialed up a movie to watch just we were taxing out.The white noise from the engines/ventilation drowned out the movie dialog so I turned on closed captions. Good…I could understand the dialog. Eventually the plane reached altitude and gradually I could hear the movie dialog very clearly over the noise that still existed ambiently. I attribute this to the effect whereby the pressure change alters your esuchen tubes, blocking them off or perhaps collapsing them?
When the plane descended and I cleared my ears I could no longer hear the movie dialog even with the earbuds in place and, as before, the background noise was audible and overpowering.
Is this evidence that there is a way to filter out background noise that hasn’t been discovered technologically yet?
Can the esuchen tube path sound path be blocked purrposely?
I’d like to know your thoughts.
