Naida or Sphere

My wife has a profound hearing loss and has worn aids for 15 years. We have narrowed down our search to Phonak. Two different providers have recommended the Naida 90 UL however in two instances when the volume was raised on her existing 3 year old Costco (Phonak Paradise) K10’s, she found the higher volume to be too uncomfortable. She needs the higher volume but has trouble handling it. The Phonak Sphere has the background noise advantage, but is less suited to her hearing loss. Any comments would be greatly appreciated.

A aid with a P or an UP receiver is powerful. Her hearing loss plays a big part on the decision.

The UP receiver is great, but some users say that even that has too little power.

I am not sure if a new Naida Infinio will be released within six months (however, this is only my assumption based on Phonak’s movements with previous generations).

Your hearing loss dictates which of these hearing aids would work best. If the KS10 aids are plenty strong I would think the Spheres would do well for her.

We do have many members with severe to profound hearing losses using hearing aids. Especially those with the worse hearing in the upper frequencies and not profound hearing loss in the lower frequencies.

From reading many posts about the Spheres it seems those with moderate to severe and maybe some profound frequencies do best with the Spheres. Also, as mentioned, a new UP L Naida might be here in the very near future if the RIC aids are not enough for her loss.

She may need less than 100% prescription level at first, and work her way up.
In any case, what kind of trial period can she get before deciding?

Why do you want to replace the KS10s? If she’s worn hearing aids for 15 years I’m guessing it would be a slow, challenging process for her to accommodate to more gain (and might not be possible–Caveat: I’m not a pro) Agree that would be useful. My leanings would be to either try the Spheres (make sure you understand return/refund policy) , Sennheiser Sonite R (from Costco) or keep the KS10. Depending on her audiogram/ Word Recognition scores she may be a cochlear implant candidate. I would assume she wears custom molds.
