Need Phone Recommendation for myPhonak and I-90 Sphere

Since about 3 weeks ago, the myPhonak app (current version 7.4.0) on my old Samsung Galaxy A12 phone frequently stops connecting to my Phonak I-90 Sphere (I wear only 1 in the left ear, my right ear is unaidable)

I had to go through dozens of cycles of ‘Forget Device’ and ‘Re-pair Device’ cycles, and I am getting tired of it. Since only my phone is old, and everything else is current, I am thinking of buying a new phone.

So, my questions are: What is the best phone for the myPhonak app to control the Phonak I-90 Sphere? Will it solve the problem?

I had a similar issue with my Samsung S25+. It started after the latest Samsung update. The connection failed constantly. I had to go into the Bluetooth app and reset wifi and Bluetooth network settings. I’ve had zero issues since I did that. I’m not great at explaining how I got there but an internet search for your specific phone should be our there. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the comments, ahkeller55! I did those Internet searches too, and adjusted the WiFi and Bluetooth settings. myPhonak worked well for a few days, then misbehaved. I adjusted the settings again, but this time, myPhonak only worked well for 1 day :frowning:

My audiologist says that the issue happens because of the myPhonak update on February 18, 2026 (2 months ago) to the current version 7.4.0. But myPhonak still worked for a full month after the update, how is that possible? (My old Android phone no longer receives updates)

I use 3 Bluetooth devices from Phonak: the itself, the TV streamer, and the Partner Mic (for my wife) ChatGPT says that iPhone has better Bluetooth technology than an Android phone.

But before I spend $$ on an iPhone, is there anyone here that uses iPhone, Phonak HA, Phonak TV streamer, and Phonak Partner Mic?

I have the Samsung S25FE and I have the Phonak Spheres and Oticon INTENT1 aids and I have very little connectivity issues. Sure if I walk out of range of my phone I loss connection to my phone. But otherwise no issues. My phone is actually using beta software at this time. And neither set of aids are fully updated. Hopefully the will get the latest updates by my next appointment in July.
The key for me is if I get firmware updates for either my aids or my phone. I forget my aids on the phone before the update. Then I go into settings and clear all data from my hearing aid app. Then finish the updates for the phone. Or if it is the aids, I clear the app data and forget the aids and reboot the phone.

A side note yes i can hear my cellphone if I use the speaker phone capability. Unfortunately our land line phones don’t have loud enough speaker phone ability.

Phonak aren’t ‘made for iphone’, either, so I don’t think an iphone is a solution.

Android 16 appears to be able to control HAs without the manufacturer’s app. With my Jabra Pro 30s, there are a few things that need to be done that can only be done through the Android HA feature.

Also, I suspect new phones keep the connection better than older phones, perhaps because the signal is stronger. But the posts above about problems with new Galaxy S25s is scary.

I’d recommend a Pixel 10 or Samsung phone, the most expensive you can comfortably swing. I’m less than delighted with the Pixel, but I don’t know the Galaxies.

I had Jabra EP 10s and a 2020 Galaxy S2 5G. The connection between phone and HAs was awful, and I bought an iphone SE (2022 edition) in 2023. It was much better at first, but it got progressively worse. BT kept getting better after some IOS upgrades and worse after others.

I got a Pixel 9 six months ago. It was rock solid at first with my EP 10s. With EP 30s, sometimes the Jabra app loses contact even though the built-in HA app stays connected.

Plus the folks at Avantree said that Phonak was testing it.

Anyhow, buying a phone without that capability seems a bit short sighted.

Yes Phonak is testing it and it seems that the Phonak Spheres have the needed hardware but not the firmware.
I have the Samsung S25FE and yes it has le audio and . The Myphonak app actually uses le audio to connect to the aids but the aids connect to the phone with classic Bluetooth. As for as I am concerned the Phonak Spheres are the very best aids that I have ever worn. I actually find that the classic Bluetooth connectivity is a positive not a negative. Where I live aurocast isn’t going to be available for sometime as the area is just now getting t-loop availability.

I’m not sure why anyone would spend money on a new t-loop system.

I use a couple times a week while square dancing and round dancing, and I have it hooked up with my computer and stereo currently.

Based on my experience, LE Audio is just al-around better then Bluetooth classic.

Nope, however the city slicker deer have been eating my garden, and the land under my house is worth almost three times the value of the house. So I guess not everyone wants to live in God’s country.

The city park does have old growth trees, trails, and plenty of deer, ravens, crows and a few other wild creatures. Walk along the waterfront walk-way and you will probably see a sea lion.

I don’t care about money or the trappings of that type of life. I saw all of it when I was young and foolish.

Have you forgotten the aids, removed/uninstalled the app, booted the phone, loaded the app back on the phone and went through a new pairing on the hearing aids.

Nothing wrong with the phone you have. Those aids will function with just about any phone including yours and iPhones.

If not give it a try.

Typing in my present phone model (Samsung Galaxy A12) the webpage confirms the issues I am experiencing now: “This model was tested but sometimes showed problems with the myPhonak app.”

Typing in various phone models, looking for the cheapest phone with an end-of-life date furthest out (7 years) I found the Google Pixel 10a

I also found this article The Best Cell Phones for People With Hearing Impairment12 on our own website (this very website) which ranks the iPhone 17 in first place and the Google Pixel 10 in second place. The ranking is based on broader considerations, not specifically on Phonak.

I am adding the Google Pixel 10a to ‘my next phone’ shortlist.
