New member looking for HA recommendations

Hey everybody. New member here. Not sure where to start.

My name is Jerry and i am 61 years old. Been working loud factory jobs most of my adult life. Always use hearing protection. My hearing has declined alot since i was young. Mostly from work, concerts, loud car audio, and some shooting. Considerate tinnitus going on too. I'm about a half year away from retirement so i have been looking more into 's.

I came across an ad for the Elehear Beyond Pro's. They sound good, but i'm not sure i am a good canadate for them, or if i need something better. I really didn't want to spend alot of money on HA's, but if that is what is deemed best, i will shell out the money for an audiologist.

Here is my latest hearing test at work. Baseline is from 15 years ago.

I'm not sure if it let me attach my most recent hearing test. might be because i am a new member.

You've definitely come to the right forum. Your hearing is significantly asymmetrical which may be related to your shooting but I'd recommend seeing a good audiologist for additional testing to rule out other potential causes. They should perform acoustic reflex testing and speech audiometry at the very least to confirm nothing else is going on that might require medical assessment.

I would ask the audiologist you see directly about hearing aids following this assessment. There are so many personal variables that influence recommendations that are unique to you, your anatomy and your lifestyle that we either cannot see or you might not want to share on a public forum.

If you're looking for audiologists that follow comprehensive clinical best practices that will give you the best hearing aid outcomes, you can find clinics at hearingup.com1 for the USA. Also check out their best practice checklists. I'm not in the USA so I cannot recommend anything more specific than this in terms of clinic suggestions.

Once you have a better idea of whether you're medically cleared for hearing aids and that you'll benefit from them (speech audiometry is required to prove that you could benefit at a minimum) it'll be easier to provide guidance along your journey.

welcome, jerry! getting a full hearing evaluation first sounds like a great starting point. hope you find the right hearing aids for your needs.

If you live near a Costco they will be able to provide top tier aids for approx $1800. You will have to pay for a membership to purchase the aids. Their warranty is very good

Whoever you decide to do business with remember that you’re entering into a relationship with that provider. Make sure you’re comfortable with the provider and that you trust them.

Welcome to the forum. Lots of great help here, we are opinionated so bare with us.

That left ear is a little worse, my guess it's from driving with your vehicle window open at 70 and or shooting as mentioned.

Do you get your hearing tested at work? Typically the bigger industrial places will send you out to a and an audiologist to verify what's going on with your hearing. This could be helpful for your decision making.

I am another fan of Costco if one is anywhere close to you. They will test you and not put hearing aids on you if there are medical reasons causing hearing issues. Otherwise they will fit top of the hearing aids using best practices which is a good thing.

Looking at your I would think prescription aids would be best for you. Expect lots of new sounds that can be overwhelming at first. Your post is very informative, thanks and good luck with better hearing.
