Hi, just asking for help/advice for a friend..she wears 2 hearing aids and has a newborn baby..friend is needing to wear her hearing aids at night (so she can hear baby when he wakes etc) but these are causing discomfort at night and disturbing her sleep etc..are there any alternatives or things that can be tried?

There are assistive devices that don’t require wearing aids in bed, like:

  • Baby-cry alert systems that use flashing lights, vibration, or a bed-shaker.

  • Vibrating monitors that go under your pillow or mattress.

  • Smart baby monitors that send push notifications or vibrations to a smartwatch or phone.

These are often used by parents who are hard of hearing and can be way more comfortable than wearing aids all night.

I don’t know what they are but my audiologist said he could get me a set of aids that I could wear at night while sleeping. I didn’t get them because my need for them stopped being needed.

I’m addition to the alert device mentioned above–I’m not an iPhone user, but won’t the iPhone send an alert for baby cries if you turn on the accessibility option? That could vibrate to the watch maybe.

Could you ask him at least for the product name? I wonder if they’re devices.

Welcome to the forum. You are great for looking out for your friend. My own experience of wearing aids when sleeping is exactly the same as your friends, I get a terrible sleep.

She should look into the Bellman range, there is a baby monitor and a vibrating mat for under the pillow. She should also look into a smoke alarm if she cannot hear this when sleeping. See the following link for the baby monitor.
