New Oticon Real 1 User: Car Noise and Radio

This is my third pair of hearing aids. Previous were five year old Resounds from Costco, first pr were Oticon. I’m very dissatisfied with all the background noise from my car while trying to hear music from car stereo. Between the heater fan and road noise, it’s very hard to hear without blasting the stereo. Turning up the aids, just turns up the background noise. I have had no luck with making adjustments through the app and the SoundBooster does nothing at all. Also, turning up aid volume makes the aids screechy and tinny sounding. I have shared this with my Audi over several visits. Multiple adjustments have been made. I’m really missing the Resound app with its ability to make adjustments to background noise and other environments also. I feel like I’ve taken a step or two backwards in tech. I would have preferred the Intent1s, but since I have UHC with a $3,000 Per Ear benefit, I’m only able to get the Reals due Mr. Oticon punishing me for having United Healthcare Advantage plan.
Am I expecting too much from these aids and/or brand? I have the very typical mild/moderate hearing loss, with higher tone loss being more pronounced.

I have the Real1 aids as my backups. And Wear them at times. I have severe hearing loss. I guess I am old school but I want to hear my tires on the road and I want to hear my engine. I can even drive with the windows down if I am not wanting to listen to the sound system. I understand that some people cannot tolerate those sounds and I couldn’t until I got the Real1 aids. Talk to your audiologist and hopefully the audiologist can adjust your aids better.

Are you using the MyMusic program in the car?
If so, that cuts off all the compression, and noise control, so you get all the noise!
Ask your audi to add the Comfort program , and adjust the More Sound Intelligence settings for Sound Enhancer to Comfort.
Have them adjust the Fine Tuning Sound Controls, and Sudden Sound Stabilizer, too.
That should be helpful in the car.
Request a follow-up appt. for 2 weeks, take notes, and you should be good to go!
Remember, you’re coming from 5 year old tech, and a different paradigm from Resound to Oticon, so you will need an adjustment period.

Whenever I’m in the car alone I turn off the car stereo and stream music to my hearing aids instead.

Another option (again if you’re alone) is to turn down your hearing aids’ volume and make the music louder.

A lot of users enjoy just setting & forgetting.
Others like the ability, and require the option to have defined programs for different settings.
The Intent has 4 program slots with the P1 slot being the default general program.
Ask your audi to program the other 3 slots based on your needs. For example as I noted above, Comfort, and others include Speech in Noise, Lecture, MyMusic.
You change programs with the buttons on the aids, or the Companion app.
