New Phonak I70 Sphere (no REM)

I’m on my 3rd pair of Phonaks over the past 20 years (Audo Yes, Marvel M90, Infinio Sphere I70).

I’ve had great experiences with the 1st 2 Pairs. I just got the I70’s last week and so far I am really impressed. I’m hands on as far as setting up new programs and adjusting things. My insurance paid a portion of the aids and I paid my copay. Only concern is the licensed fitter did not do any adjustments. Said she wasn’t trained on that and has never used it. I’ve watched several Youtube videos from audiologists stressing the importance of the REM adjustments. Is it worth me seeking out an audiologist that does REM and have them make the adjustments. I know I’ll have to pay something for this but not sure how much something like this would cost. $$$

To upload your , click on your icon at top right of page, then on settings (person icon at the bottom of the of the list of icons) then on preferences. You will see a button for audiograms.

As to the need for rem, you will get a lot of opinions. Only about on third of audiologists in the US actually use it but for some it is very important (one audiologist on this forum mentioned it is especially needed if your ear canal varies significantly from the average). Many certainly have benefited from it. I have never received a fitting but have now become a person so it is not important to me. I am sure the cost of a separate REM fitting will vary depending on your location. Here in Northern New Jersey, the cost to someone who did not purchase aids from the clinic appears to be around $800. Discussions on the forum have suggested that it can me much less expensive in other places.

I couldn’t rest until the niggle in my head was satisfied so I found an audi who did it.
Made no difference to my hearing and little difference to my gain values.
High frequency loss similar to yours couldn’t be increased by much.
