Thx very much for your post…My story and needs are much the same…Just like you, I’m not sure that I’m posting this in the correct way and I also have the Oticon Real 1. These are my first hearing aids and I’m in the middle of my free 6 week trial…Because the clock is running and my insurance allows me 2 trials of different hearing aids, I feel some pressure to know if these will work for me!
I was a sound engineer my whole life so as you might guess, its hard for me to accept the AWFUL sound quality and artifacting that these Oticons have, even though they are quite effective at understand conversation…When I was first shopping and I read reviews such as “ha for sound engineers”, “ha for musicians”, “ha for audiofiles”, all that these reviews spoke to was EQ. and that was what I indeed was most worried about…That everything would sound “tinny” and boosted at the top end!
My Audiologist has created several programs for me and using these programs in conjunction with the (cursory) EQ control on the ap, the EQ is under control, but there is a worse problem that the audiologist has not been able to correct!..In all programs, the sound has lost all connection to any continuous spatial sound field…All near field transients like clothes rustling, objects moving on a table or my own breath JUMP into my hearing, right in my ears, hard right or left ( like someone whispering in your ear)…Needless to say, this is totally unnatural and disruptive!’’…I’ve been told that this can be caused by the microphones being too directional and that the directionality of those mics are adjustable.
Does anyone have any words of wisdom…Is the best thing to do to download the Genie software (if it will work with my Chromebook) and try myself?..Should I go to a different brand for my second trial?..Many thanks!
