Evening, has anyone wearing Oticon Intent1s, had their Audiologist alter in the Virtual Outer Ear Sound Configuration from Balanced to Aware. Because of missing words either from side on, or being spoken to from behind. If they have, does it work. Thanks
Not the answer you want but I wear Oticon INTENT1 aids with custom ear molds and my word recognition is really good. I cannot tell you how my audiologist has configured my aids. I can tell you that I have worn aids 20 years and Oticon aids 15 years and I have been wearing INTENT1 aids for since June of the year they were released. And my INTENT1 aids are the first to give as close to perfect speech understanding that is possible for my hearing loss. Now I must add that I have 105db receivers with acrylic custom full skeleton ear molds and small vents. I hear speech all around me with them.
@Colin_C Aware gives you access to sounds from the sides and back, whereas Balanced is more evenly distributed. BTW these settings only apply to Neural Noise Suppression Easy Environments, not Difficult Environments.
Ask your audi to add a 2nd General program for you with the Aware setting, and keep the default P1 as Balanced. That way you can do A/B testing by switching programs.
Tbh, I turned off all the MSI features, and just set the General settings for Directionality to Fixed Omni, which is the most natural. This way I don’t have all that and NNS processing going on, and IMHO gives me a more natural soundscape (if there is such a thing for us people).
My INTENT1 aids only has the default general program, it was my goal and my audiologist supported it and worked hard with me to accomplish it. I put my aids on when I get up and take them out at bedtime. I don’t touch them or think about them all day long. Yes my aids are capable of full hands free calls by double taps but I seldom do. I stream audiobooks and music to my aids. But still don’t have to touch my aids. It makes me feel like I am as close to having normal hearing as possible.
Virtual Outer Ear will only work in quiet, less busy situation. I am not sure how this work in Oticon algorithm. Mine was set to “Focus” which mean I will have gain better focus on forward.
This, I don’t lose access to surround. I can hear people speak behind me or side to me just fine. If that what you asking. It not completely cut out side or behind. You can hear them fine.
Thank you for your reply. Mine were set to Focused. I had him alter it to Aware, thinking I would hear four out of six words from the side. But now finding speech from others, front facing, worse in quiet places. So thinking of having them set back to Focused. Been wearing Intent1s now over a year, and I am forever going back to have them adjusted. I have to stop, as it’s wearing me down. And accept what I have got.
Thanks for your reply. I now have a General program set to Focus, and a second one set to Balanced. Hopefully that should do the trick. As I can swap in and out as you mentioned
