Recently moved from Oticon hearing aids to Phonaks; love how they sound—especially when it comes to Bluetooth—compared to the Oticons I used to have (still do, but the two I own are now considered replacements if anything bad happens to the Phonaks in either that it’s missing or destroyed).
However, I’ve only been wearing these for about a week now and have been struggling with its Bluetooth connectivity. I’ve tried everything from setting adjustments to doing soft software resets (doesn’t affect its set settings from my audiologist), as well as reading through this forum (which is also why I decided to make an account here).
Yet what I’m seeing here doesn’t necessarily align with the issues I’m having, especially when it’s supposedly device-specific and along with the Bluetooth connection. For context, I used to be an Oticon user with the EduMic (for school settings, worked perfectly fine both ways); yet now I’m a Phonak HAs user with the Roger Touchscreen Mic (also for school settings, are Phonak compatible). Yet I also serve a bluetooth connection to my iPhone 14 Plus (Firmware 4.51.04; not sure if that changes anything but I saw it being mentioned here a few times).
One thing I noticed upon receiving the Phonaks and the Roger a day apart is that without the Roger fully having a connection (the day before getting the Roger) is that the Bluetooth connection to my iPhone was absolutely fine: no constant audio cut outs for 1-4 seconds (which heavily affected the left side more than the right, best it would do is cut out both bluetooth and external audios making me back to being deaf [“failed” my hearing tuition waver with ~30%, if that gives y’all a clue] on the left side and only disconnect the bluetooth from the right, but the right returns quicker than the left).
However, now that my Phonak HAs have a connection to the Roger, they began starting to disconnect from itself automatically while I’m streaming music/videos to my ears from my iPhone (with the Roger disconnected from my HAs [not fully, only because of school] and turned off) and reconnecting itself after 1-4 seconds (with the “Bluetooth + Mic” program, which isn’t a permanent program apparently). As said earlier, it heavily affects the left side—which in turn, affects the right side—and the only “fix” I could happen to find was only for the connection between my HAs and Roger Mic, which was to turn off the Bluetooth entirely from my iPhone sometime before school started, which meant the only connection went between my HAs and Roger Mic and didn’t cause the 1-4 second audio cut-off/auto disconnect.
However, as said earlier, I really love how the sounds comes to my ears (either streamed or externally) compared to the Oticons, and I really like streaming audio to my ears because I can’t stand outside noise unless its accompanied with music.
Is there a way to fix the random disconnectings while also serving a connection to both my iPhone and Roger, or would I have to deal with said disconnections because there’s not really a guaranteed fix in the long run? I have looked up supposed fixes before resorted to forums, and I have an Audiologist appointment upcoming specifically because of this issue, so all advice are appreciated! ![]()
