My hearing aids drive me crazy with automatic changes. Automatic volume control and program switching are way out if whack and unpredictable. Sometimes when listening to the tv or car radio they knock the volume down and up for no apparent reason. My hearing aid professional said he shut these off but he didn’t. I’m getting frustrated that Phonak thinks they’re so smart. Can these really be SHUT OFF completely?
And I love the hands free operation of my aids I put them in and forget about them. It make for a mostly stress free day. I have been wearing aids for 21 years and my early aids had no controls at all, and my Phonak Spheres are that way for me. It took some more fitting adjustments than the basics that so many audiologists do. It takes going through all of the operations to get them right. But a good audiologist will take the time to do so. I don’t and make it a point not to. Why I spent my career with electronic devices and computer hardware and software so when I retired I got rid of all things Microsoft. And now all things Apple. I am an Android user. It just works.
Yes, they can be effectively ‘shut off.’ AutoSense is the default program on startup, but you can change that to Calm or whatever program you want in Target (the programming software professionals and DIYers use). I don’t think you can do it yourself in the app.
It is possible to use MyPhonak to create a custom program and change to that. The bad news is that it needs to be done every time you turn on the hearing aids.
No you can save your changes to a new program. I do that with my Spheres. I have created a program for being out in the forest. I use the music program then adjust everything for wide open hearing of everyday.
When watching TV it’s best to use the built in TV program. Action movies with a lot of sound effects will kick the into Speech in Noise. When driving, the aids go into Speech in Car. Also try the TV program. If you’re riding in the car, you can make adjustments to Speech in Car and save as a new program, but obviously don’t try to make adjustments while driving.
I would recommend to ask your hearing aid professional to switch off the microphone reduction (mic attenuation) for the streaming programs. This will help to have a more stable volume for the environment in case the hearing aids are jumping out of the automatic settings into a streaming program
I had CRAZY world hearing with Infinio 90s I’ve had for a week, until I De-Activated AutoSense 7.0
This managed OS was taking me to all different planets with L & R aids self deciding which planet to go to every few minutes and very noticeably independently, which is a wild and unpredictable ride.
Since de-activating AutoSense 7.0 and selecting Calm situation as my default start-up setting, I’M NOW BACK ON EARTH.
My hearing world is like it used to be. No crazy mind bending distractions at all.
Manually selecting the Spheric setting is still quite amazing, when needed.
I’d say AutoSense 7.0 is designed for very old aged people with cognitive impairment, but if you want to get there much faster, then this would be when AutoSense 7.0 becomes useful !!
But seriously, this is what all audiologists need to be aware of. You or your need to achieve this setting change via the Target software and an interface hardware like Noahlink Wireless (which is usable with most top end hearing aids).
Wow, I am jealous. I have had Audeo Sphere i90 for a month on sale or return from Boot/phonak in UK and returned them today. They were no better than my 6 year old Phonaks. The app has no control on the basic functions. I heard of people praising the Spheres, but I do not think my audiologist had turned it on. Speech in any situation was amplified NOT enhanced.
I would have given an arm and a leg to be be able control these , but in UK you cannot buy HAs without an expensive “support package” and does not allow the user to tailor them to their preferences. Want to start HAs with a modified program? Got to see the audiologist for that which is a ferry trip away.

Not quite true, go to Costco and get the real deal, don’t rely on “Apps” as you need to have them set up and fitted correctly for the apps to be of any good, the novelty will soon wear off..
