Phonak Audeo Infinio Ultra Sphere Update cycle

Hello,
I may soon order Infinio Ultra Sphere aids to replace existing Audeos to enjoy the recent enhancements. I have used aids for over 30 years with severe to profound hearing loss.

Where are we in the Phonak update cycle? Particularly hardware updates. Software or firmware updates can be installed on recent aids - and we expect Bluetooth LE - related updates presumably fairly soon?

We are all used to the electronics and processor update cycles that offer improvements to our phones, PCs, laptops, tablets etc. We are increasingly used to the idea of software / firmware updates and know we can take those updates if appropriate.

But I am concerned at the risk of spending £x,000 at just the wrong time in the Phonak update cycle. Where are we in the Phonak Aureo update cycle?

The Infinio was released in autumn of 2024. It’s probably fair to say this was the last major hardware platform release for Phonak. There has been a recent update last year, which was a major software update, but not a hardware update. There has also been a release to their custom Virto range, in August 2025.

There has been no word to my knowledge of , Bluetooth LE.

Phonak usually bring out a major release every 4 years, with a minor one in-between that. On this basis, I would not expect a major release until 2028.

That said, in terms of severe to profound loss, if you need a superpower aid, the Nadia Lumity came out in 2023, so there may be a release of that sooner than 2028.

One thing that could reassure you is that when Phonak brought out the software update to the Sphere recently, it was available to everybody (the original buyers of the Infinio) as a firmware upgrade.

In matters of when, I don’t know. But in matters of what, I would speculate that the next iteration of the iSphere line will be to integrate the sphere chip into the main chip and as a single unit it will use less power, with the goal of extending Sphere mode runtime beyond 7 hours.

I raised this because we are missing the upgrade on today’s Sphere. Can one be confident that will appear as a firmware upgrade on the present hardware, easily installable by audiologists or technically capable users. Or might Phonak decide they can’t do that properly on the present two chip platform and announce new aids on a single chip, enabling both Auracast and a response to criticism of aid size? I would think it would be too long to wait until 2028 for Auracast. So, which way might they jump?

According to the site hearingaid.org.uk11 the infinio ultra (latest version) is ready for an update, should it be available:

Realistic lifespan of hearing aids
IIRC, in the 2024 Phonak released Naida Lumity without previous “warnings”. Maybe it is probably the same situation now? EDIT: Spice - Jan 2011; Spice+ - Nov 2011 Quest - Oct 2012 Venture - Oct 2014 Belong - Sept 2016 END OF EDIT. Marvel - Oct 2018 Paradise - Aug 2020 Lumity - Aug 2022 Infinio - Aug 2024. I don’t think new firmware changed the roadmap.

Perhaps this will shed some light on the situation. I think new generation will be in Aug 2026.

However, we don’t know if the improvements will be minor or major.

There is also another possibility: to test or buy Fortell hearing aids which reportedly have great denoising.
