Phonak Infinio Sphere Adjustment

Hi there

I’ve been testing the Sphere for 1 1/2 weeks now. My biggest problem with them is that some words come across as too shrill/loud.
e.g. paper (the a is very loud compared to the others), papi (the a is very loud compared to the others).
sometimes I feel like I’m on a rollercoaster, loud, quiet, very loud etc. it hurts my ears and sometimes even my brain (as if I had a fever), of course I can turn it down but that would mean I wouldn’t be able to hear as well.

I actually have no idea where I could adjust this in the target, does anyone have an idea what could be done about it?

I undestand that the vocal A is to loud / shrill
The vocal A is located between 500Hz and 750Hz

  1. Decrease Moderate Gain (G 60) from 500 Hz and/or 750 Hz
    if Step 1 does not help
  2. Decrease Loud Gain (G 80) between 500 Hz and 750 Hz
    if Step 2 is not helping
  3. Decrease Overall Output () at 500 Hz and 750 Hz

Shrill-This is in the higher frequencies, not down low which is “booming,boxy,Bass”

Are these your fist ? If so it could just well be your not used to hearing these sounds?

No, I have been wearing hearing aids for over 40 years.
I also had Phonak for at least 12 years, but back then the problem was more the clattering of dishes.
All other noises are “normal” for me, i.e. not too loud or unpleasant, except for bits of words, which can really hit you. (I had the same problem with Starkey).

My last hearing aids were from Oticon and because of this problem I am currently leaning towards the Oticon Intent, they are generally louder and therefore tiring, but they don’t make me aggressive like the Phonak/Starkey.

thanks, I did 3 programs in a quiet environment,

  1. with a reduction of 3 levels at G65 (520-860)
  2. with an additional reduction of 3 levels at G80 (520-860)
  3. with an additional reduction of 3 levels at (520-860)

I’ll test tomorrow to see what’s better.

Oh I see, well looking at that it could be your left ear giving the issue, you can easily check by just adjusting the left side in target, I’ve found that programming each side independently has given better results, but the question now arises, your not using SR are you, also what formula are you using or something else.

Hm, that should be easy to check. The last few times my wife was sitting to my left, so I’ll put her on the right side to see if the problem still exists. On the table she sits in front of me, and both ears are affected.

With the Oticon, where I’m on the specified line for both, I have 1-2 levels higher on the left side so that it sounds roughly the same. Here with the Phonak it’s still first fit.

I use Adaptive Phonak Digital 3.0 and the SoundRevover2 option is activated on the speech element. “Sch-S-SCH-S”.

I’ve already switched from clarity to one level before comfort. Distinctiveness is at 19.

You could try turning SR off
(maybe even just on left side) to see if there’s any difference at all.
If you’re still on first fit, did you get the option for setting up with first time user or experienced, just sounds like one or two of those frequencys is out, can you isolate which frequencies with something like this and then you could just drop the G80 (louder sounds) in those, lots of things to try with the advice from everyone, should be interesting to see what’s going on.

One last thing, do you do In-situ or manually add your audogram, try in-situ fittings which for some give better results.

All good, yeah sometimes it takes a bit of time to find a suitable solution, I’ve seen your other posts on the sphere so yeah if it doesn’t give the “ground breaking” wow factor then no point, for me I’m waiting on the next platforms from ReSound and Signia.
