I am considering purchasing hearing aids online, and found that there are a number of eBay sellers as well as websites that sell online, and claim to be authorized resellers. Some of these are Onlinehearing, Genesis healthcare hearing, FitHearing, DirectHearing and eBay user bidbybid.

Even under the online model, the prices for the same hearing aid model varies significantly across these sellers (for e.g., a user on Reddit reported purchasing a Phonak Ultra Spheres I90 for $2500 from eBay, being sold for ~ $3800 by Direct hearing - is it even possible for the price to be this low?)

Can any of the community members comment on purchasing from eBay sellers and Online stores (all offering full Manufacturer’s warranty, Unlocked hardware, lifetime remote programming, and a return policy of 30 days or more)? Thanks in advance for any replies and information.

I just today received a Pair of Nexia 560 with the charger for $150 on eBay … there are bargains to be found.

They are not the top of the line … I wanted to see the difference the 5 is to the 9 level … probably not as good in Noise … but will probably be fine for my use.

I updated the firmware and programed them and the are working very well.

You probably will not find Phonak Ultra Spheres I90 at a bargain price

I bought a pair of Signia C&G 7IX with a charger online for about $2000 a year ago. The audiologist programmed them from a hearing test I sent them, with pictures of my ears with a measuring device on them. These aids can be “fitted” remotely (I don’t know anything about other brands). He did a fitting that closely resembles in that he transmitted various frequencies and compared what the microphones received for a refined fitting. He performed 3 further fittings remotely. They are covered by 3 year loss/damage through his office. I have been very satisfied with these. I am uncomfortable with advertising the name, I am not paid or a rep. I found them on ebay but did research to find more about them…they are a licensed office in Ohio with a brick and mortar office as well as remote. Look around, you likely will find something.

I recently bought a Pair of Phonak audeo Sphere I90 Ultra on eBay from one of the vendors you mentioned. Price was $2375 and included:

3 year Phonak warranty, including a one time lost hearing aids replacement during the 3 year warranty.

Lifetime remote programming from the vendor.

I DID A LOT OF RESEARCH ON THE SELLER (not just eBay rating) BEFORE I MADE THE PURCHASE.TO MAKE SURE THEY WERE LEGITIMATE.

The process was simple. I sent them my so they could programme the , which arrived 2-3 days later. I also received my Phonak Warranty docs.

While still within the return period, I saw my local audiologist (part of a major hospital) today to get the HAs verified with Phonak, and programmed. The vendor had done a pretty good first pass at programming though my local audiologist made a few tweaks. A call was placed to Phonak to verify the HAs, and they confirmed all my details were already in their system. The REM/Programming cost me $250, but will cost me $165 if I need to do any REM adjustments in the future. My total outlay is $2625 with REM.

I would do this again, but I admit I am very comfortable with technology and research. I would not recommend this path for everyone as there were more than a few “sketchy" vendors on eBay with low prices that did not measure up when I researched the underlying company.

Thanks, Goonercsmm! Appreciate the insights. Would you be comfortable sharing which vendor you went with? Also, regarding the warranty, were you able to call Phonak directly to verify it, or is that something only an audiologist can do?

I’m happy to divulge the vendor to anyone who sends me a message. Regarding the warranty, because I was in the return period, I decided to let the Audiologist do this since they deal with Phonak every day.
