Question on hearing aids to help distorted hearing

A little over a year ago I suffered from . Woke up one morning deaf in my left ear…
Round of prednisone from regular doc.
Finally a month later saw me and I was diagnosed. ( done, but they have never told me the findings to this day and will not return my or my doctors calls).
I regained some of my hearing. Lows, and some highs. But there is a bit of frequency that I can hear but very distorted.
I have hearing aids… (cuz insurance doesnt consider hearing as essential its elective. Ill remind them that when I get run over by a forklift at work that I cant hear).
Would a good set of hearing aids be able to Compensate for the distorted frequencies?
(Id be fine with getting rid of the distorted frequencies all together). Anything to be able to hear/understand better. (right ear has hearing loss too from ear infection wrongly treated multiple times but OTC hearing aid makes up for that easy).

Somewhat yes… But when amplfied it gets worse.
(I was mostly curious if the distorted frequencies could be bypassed and only the non distorted amplified. Not perfect but better than what I have now).
Bone conduction hearing aids seem to work pretty well however. Though the android amplifier setting has a bad delay but can actually understand things fairly well)

I have distorted hearing in my left ear.
I wear hearing aids.
The aids amplify the distortion.
I hear it nice and loud.
I do hear the distortion without the aids, just not as loud.
I was told I have nerve damage.

Bummer. I was hoping there would be a way to program the distorted frequencies out. (simply dont amplify those frequencies to keep the distortion to a minimum)

I should have classified.
If the sound comes from the front it’s not that noticeable.
If it comes from my left side total distortion.
If it comes from my right side no distortion.
When I speak and hear my own voice nothing but distortion.

Understandable. My distortion is only in part of female speech. Fan blowing. I can hear higher and lower without distortion. (One ear only).
It’s very frustrating (as I’m sure it is for you as well).

I have a similar situation. I find that word discrimination in that ear is poor aided or not. I have my aid in that year running at a lower amplification and it’s more for environmental sound or situational awareness. I call it my LFE (Low Frequency Effects) or Subwoofer ear. Curiously, that ear is quite sensitive again to frequencies at 7.5kHz and up.

@renedar048 , here are some suggestions: you are entitled to know the results of your . Are you saying that the office of the who ordered the MRI will not respond to phone calls from you or from your primary care physician? Or are you saying that the facility that conducted the MRI will not provide the results to the ENT who ordered the MRI?

If it’s the former, I suggest you visit the office of the ENT and tell the scheduler that you want to make an appointment to see the ENT. When you actually see the ENT, tell him/her about the frustration you’re experiencing with the office staff and ask the ENT to get the MRI results. And then, before leaving the office, make a follow-up appointment to get the results.

If it’s the latter, I suggest you show up at the facility that conducted the MRI and ask to see the office manager. In my experience, making physical visits gets these folks’ attention much more effectively than making phone calls and leaving voicemails.

As far as programming your to deal with the distortion, an audiologist should be able to determine at what frequencies the distortion is occurring and use the programming software to drastically reduce the volume in those frequencies. If the frequency bands that are causing the distortion are too wide, this might not be effective, but it’s certainly worth a try.

If that doesn’t work, maybe ask your audi about bi- HAs. Do a web search to find out about Bi-CROS. Good luck.
