Resound Smart Fit settings

I have Resound hearing aids and Smart fit software. I recently obtained ear molds and had testing and fitting with a new . Everything seems to be OK until I encounter noise in the area. Sharp sounds like dishes or silverware hitting or even running water result in very sharp sounds. In a crowded restaurant it sounds like the folks three tables away are shouting in my ear. I have tried the hear in noise and speech clarity but that just lowers the volume and then I cannot hear the person across the table from me. I have done some adjustment in the environmental optimizer settings and I have improved things but I really do not understand what the setting do and what I should be shooting for. I would appreciate some input on what I should be doing in the environmental optimizer.

if your new to then a lot of these sounds are what you haven’t heard for some time and can take a bit to get used to, yeah so do some research before jumping in, there’s impulse noise reduction and NoiseTracker are a couple of things to look into, here you can find all the features “explained” and what they do.

OK I have things improved. Mostly I reset the environmental optimizer to default and tweaked the gain. I attended a wedding last week end and at the reception I was able to set the aids in all around to noise filter and I was able to endure the reception with the background noise diminished and I was able to hear table companions if I concentrated on one person. This is a great improvement. The problem was at both the reception and at the actual ceremony I was not able to hear the main speaker. At the ceremony it was relatively quiet and I did not have the noise filter on but I could not understand the speaker. At the reception the noise filter was activated and I was not able to hear anything coming over the sound system to the point that I was not even sure that someone was speaking. Is there some way that I can either modify the existing program or add a custom program where I could switch to the other program to be able to hear the speaker when the environment is relatively quiet and someone is speaking through a sound system? I am not sure where to start.
