Resound Verso 962 starts with 7 beeps -- is that OK?

My Resound Verso 962s produced 7 beeps when I changed batteries. I was told by Resound Customer Care that it is normal. But I have had these ’s over two years and don’t remember hearing them before this.

Q1 Is it normal to get 7 beeps when changing batteries?

Q2 is there a certain condition that makes them beep?

What you’re hearing is the SmartStart feature. It delays activation of the microphone after you close the battery door so you can insert the hearing aid without it making a squealing noise.

That sounds reasonable.
But how can I reproduce the 7 beeps?
When I open and close the door it doesn’t happen.
When I take the battery out and put it back again it doesn’t happen.

Edit: I usually turn my ’s on after putting them on so if SmartStart is activated on my HA’s I should hear it every day. Also, I found that the resound SmartStart delay is 10 seconds, not 7:

“… SmartStart. This function will delay the time in which the hearing instruments turn on by ten seconds after the battery compartment is closed. With SmartStart, a beep will be heard for each second of the delay period.”

I was not doing any wireless. Both batteries had signaled several times that they were dying, so I replaced them with what I thought were new batteries, but they were dead. So I replaced again with good batteries, put on the ’s, and then turned them on. That is when I heard the 7 equally spaced beeps – I first turned on the right side and got the 7 beeps, and then I turned on the left side and it gave 7 beeps.

After being turned off overnight, I turned them on this morning, after putting them on, and they started as in the past with no beeps.

You should hear the start beeps each time they are turned on. It sounds like you are putting them on and then turning them on. I do that. I had the audi reduce the number of beeps to 1. If I open the door and close it, I get the one beat and that happens every time.

You are right that I put the ’s in my ears before I turn them on. But I don’t usually hear any beeps at that time – except that one day when I got 7 beeps when I turned on each HA – one HA at a time while in my ears.

But that only happened on one day – not before and not after. The only thing different about that day is that I had replaced both batteries because they were signaling that they were running down. I replace them with two new batteries and neither worked. So I replaced those with another set. I put the 2nd new set on and turned them on one at a time. That is when each HA produced 7 beeps.

I figured out why I hadn’t heard the 7 beeps before. In the past, when I changed batteries, it always took a half minute to a minute from the time I removed the tape from the batteries until I closed the switch to turn them on while in my ears. The time I heard the 7 beeps I had avoided that open-air delay. This situation is repeatable.
