Opted for restaurant instead of wind program as I used others for general, music and tinnitus.
Found that the restaurant also helps listening to talk on the radio in the car. Seems to focus on voice and cuts down on wind and noise.
Also listening to a speaker in a church hall using a microphone - he was clearer with restaurant program than regular which was a little hollow sounding
Don’t understand how all this works but happy it does!
Thoughts?
I use my restaurant program for basically the same thing, however, if I’m listening to a lot of radio or music I have a separate music program that sounds better than the restaurant program.
Yes I have music program too and love it.
Perhaps it is the suppression of the background noise that helps the wind noise and the background of the audience EG in a church or lecture?
Curious - why type do you have that has software for “restaurant mode”? Never heard of such a program other then noise reduction, comfort setting, background noise reduction, etc. So the restaurant mode is only for Outback, P. J. Jang, and Ruth Chris steak house but is not programed for loud parties, crowded airports, bus terminals, big group gatherings outside? A program that reduces or tries to eliminate back ground noise to improve speech understanding in the immediate area of the HA user should not be called a “restaurant mode” program. Hardly.
So what’s the you guys are pumping using supposed “restaurant mode”? And in the future let’s get the program name correct instead of making something up like “restaurant mode”.
Jeez Chris and Craig, why so tense over mention of “restaurant” mode? I would imagine most of us knew exactly what the post was referring to. At least with the Kirkland 5s’ user manual for the remote control below it says the can name the modes what you want, on page 11.
I agree! “Restaurant mode”, “speech in noise,” as long as you know what it is what’s the difference? I also have a pair of Resound ’s and on the screen it said “restaurant” for the speech in noise when the fitter was setting it up.
Thanks for clarifying. As a newbie I didn’t know what people were talking about with “speech in noise.” The Audi asked me if I had more issues with wind or restaurants as those were available programs from Resound
Now I also understand why it works in church as it suppresses the background stuff and zeros in on the speaker. Same for suppressing the car and wind noise so I can hear NPR.
I’m so happy with this program. As a pediatric therapist it also helps me with noisy kids in the background. Mostly my question was technical as to why it worked and if its because the noise is suppressed. Perhaps I was able to answer my own question then?
Thanks for feedback !

With appointment on 10/4 at Costco for these same aids I’ve already decided (and having bit the bullet mentally to spend this much even though killer price right now as I have some really helpful MDHearingAids) this is really excititing for me to read. That is the biggest problem I have. I am also loving the concept of 2 of these (smaller than what I have devices) talking back & forth to 360 degree model the sound field for me. I imagine mode 1 will be auto? I’m huge on high end auto functions in gear when they work right. But they damn well better be able to sound, after adjustments, as decent as my MD Pro units. I will not tolerate “tinny” or “weird” sounding. They have like an equalizer to work with here based on my specific hearing problems. So I go in with high hopes of surpassing my analogue, linear MD Pros.
But, in answering another person’s question about MD aids, I became aware of their new MD “Air” digital aids. Feedback suppression that I can’t wait to have (after experienceing with equally inexpensive Simens Touching basic digital aid), and they also talk about a couple or 3 “programs” where you can select between them. One of them, people giving reviews say is a “speech in noise” adjustment. So I went ahead and ordered just one of these at $350. I will be able to compare Resound Verso in one ear to digital MD Air in one ear to analogue MD Pro in one ear. It may offer something in quick down and dirty one ear, hopefully quality performance that I don’t need to put the hours on the high tech aids. Such as at night. Sometimes I can’t hear “bleep” at night, like an alarm clock or in a possible emergency as has happened, someone calling for me a distance away as I zonk out, with “no” aid in. If I wake and want to sleep on my other side with the pillow, I just spin my ear bud and change my one “MD Pro” to the other ear. Don’t see any need to do that with high tech aids.
I think you are going to notice quite a different going from Analog to Digital…at least that is what many people say. I’ve never had Analog. Plus, am I reading you correctly in that you are going to just use one older Analog aid in one ear and just demo different Digital in the other? I was confused by your post.
I’m not sure you will get the speech in noise programming by doing that if that is your goal in comparing.
