SSNHL sufferer - Fullness feeling is overwhelming

Suffered in R ear 6 months ago. I’ve been wearing widex hearing aids for about 2 months + a bit. The last few days especially, I have experienced more fullness than usual, and it even sometimes feels like it muffles my hearing, especially at the end of the day (I’m a music producer and somehow still work on music, thank God). In the morning, the hearing aids are crisp and nice, verified by me snapping my fingers near each ear to check. later those same snaps can sound muted. I wonder if my ears are just tired, or if there’s more allergens the last few days (alleriges were really never an issue for me), or what might be going on, but it’s driving me a little crazy. I also don’t notice the fullness when I take the aids out and put in the earpods pro (apple) to take a call or just meditate to the sound of the rain, so could this be a hearing aid thing? Is fullness with SSNHL a thing that waxes and wanes? thanks

I’d like to know how this worked out? I now have and love (and make) music like you. My case affects the lower mids and involved “recruitment” so that overcompensation from nearby frequencies can be startling. I also get the fulness you describe,a s if there’s water in my ear. My research so far tells me that there is a setting in the high-end hearing aids that attempt to compress the recruited frequencies, so the threshold for that can be very important. I wonder if it needs adjusting as the day goes on or the environment changes significantly. If you’re stilla round, please let us know, and I hope you still play!

HI!! I now wear hearing aids (that was a transition!!!), and returned to music without any real consequence to the sound and quality of my work, per my clients. I am a -er, meaning i fit myself with hearing aids, using this forum as a resource. I then decided to help other musicians and non musicians alike, and got licensed as a hearing care practitioner, and now work in a hearing clinic that I run, 4 days a week, do sound at church (in house and online), and continue to write and mix music, all while wearing hearing aids. I don’t play drums as much, because I’m not a fan of the late hours and the set up/tear down, but I get offered gigs all the time. All in all, my story has a silver lining. The fullness feeling comes ands goes. I hope it will eventually depart for good.

Your outcome gives me hope. I recently experienced and have just finished my last steroid injection. I go back in 3 weeks to see if my hearing has improved anymore. I had an 11-day course of oral steroids that began on day 12 of my SSNHL. An after that course of steroids did show improvement in the ear that was affected. I have worn hearing aids for a slight hearing loss for several years but now want to replace them with prescription hearing aids. I see that most major hearing aid brands now use but I have no idea which features I should look for that might help mitigate the pitch distortion I hear in my ear that has been affected by my SSNHL. I fear that if the pitch distortion is simply amplified it will be worse than the reduced volume I also have in that ear. Do you have any advice for which hearing aids might be best for my situation? Thanks for any help you can give.
