My iPhone 12 often disconnects if I have my phone in my pocket . Any improvement with iPhone 16 pro?

Most likely , no. It’s a limitation of Bluetooth low energy and (made for iPhone): low energy connections at the expense of range . Apple tends to be very consistent across models.

This may change with the introduction of Bluetooth but no hints that Apple will be supporting this in the near future.
