Testing my 4th pair of Phonak Spheres and still issues

As I noted earlier on the forum, my first three trials of Phonak Spheres all failed with defective connections of the receivers with the main body. I finally got my 4th pair and have started another trial. Mechanically, things are going well but I’m having an annoying issue with the software: Every time I open the Phonak app the program jumps to the Bluetooth streaming + mic selection (auto selection doesn’t seem to do anything either). Re-pairing and re-installing the app does nothing. Anyone having this issue?

I’ve never had this issue, but is your phone set up so that opening the app makes it play a sound? Bluetooth+mic is the program it jumps to when the phone makes any sort of sound, for any reason.

Phonak’s Bluetooth works like any regular headphone : when the BT is connected, all sounds are sent to the BT device. Any time a sound is sent, the Phonak app will switch to streaming.

Try turning off notifications off .

This is the reason why I don’t enable my Phonak’s BT all the time. Instead , I turn it on only when I’m streaming.

Non Sonova devices don’t behave like this (at least with the iPhone): the OS allows you to manage how sounds are routed .

I’m trialing Oticon Intent and they are improvement over the Mores but I’m thinking of trialing the Spheres 90. Are others finding technical problems with Phonak?

This is great advice! Wasn’t aware of this sound triggering. Just spent a few minutes turning off most every notification I can find on my iPhone and it seems to have stopped the issue. I’m sure I’ve shut off something critical that I’ll notice later, but at least I understand the concept. I hate my phone.The latest version is so heavy I found myself considering suspenders to help keep my pants up! I’m not a tech dummy. I’ve built every PC I’ve owned since they were invented, and I’ve built two Experimental aircraft. But these days I’m feeling like an old fool because I can’t figure out how to use a phone! Just too much stuff!

In my experience the Phonak app isn’t the best software. I have had my 4th pair of Spheres less than 3 days. I decided to use the constant phone-software connection to see how well it works and how much it draws down the battery. Today I switched over to the mode where the phone only connects when you open the software, and the screen displays the “Connecting…this may take some time” banner and it just freezes there. Oddly, I can still select a different program from the tiny up/dn arrow buttons at the top of the screen

Only if you turn off the phone’s .

If you go in the Phonak app : app → devices → Bluetooth streaming → off : this disables streaming but you can still use the app and all other BT connected devices will continue to work. This is the setting I use .

Phonak uses two types of BT: BT classic for streaming and BT LE for the aids management with the Phonak app. What I explained disables the BT classic connection but not the BT LE one .
