Unwanted beeping sounds with Phonak Paradise and TV Connector

I had the Phonak V90 aids and now have the P90 ones and they are marvelous except for one thing. When the TV connector is powered up and I am walking around the house, but not streaming to the TV, The dum-de-dum-dum melody is going on at various intervals. Announcing, I think, the aids returning to autosense. You can simulate the effect by going to the phonak app and selecting some other program than autosense, then reselecting autosense. The tone then plays. I have no idea why Phonak thinks I might be interested in hearing that damned tone all the time. It is most distracting, Can it be gotten rid of?

Your aids if like the Marvel aids have 3 choices to control how the TV connector acts with your aids. They can automatically switch to the TV connector, make a tune when the TV connector sound is available and you manually hit the button on your aids to turn the sound on the TV connector and the third choice is manual only with the aids button and no sound to announce that the TV connector sound is available. Your fitter will need to set this up for you.

As far as the sound your aids make switching from the TV connector to AutoSense your fitter can change how loud that sound is if that helps you. This would affect all sounds including manual program changes using the aids button, your phones Phonak app and the remote control if you use one. I think the tune can also be changed but not sure about that.

In the meantime you can just turn the TV Connector off and turn it back on again when you want it.

I tend to switch mine off every night when going to bed. Not because of the autosense sound but because of the white light from the LED lighting up the entire wall behind the TV Connector. Although it is faint, I find it distracting when I am trying to get to sleep. As far as the tendency to switch back and forth between TV and Autosense, while I am in another room, I find that frustrating as well and switch the TV Connector off by touching the button on the top of the device before I leave the room.

I’m guessing you have it plugged into a separate power source. If your TV has a USB port, you can plug it into that and it will power on and off with your TV.

Actually I use the fiber optic input connection. That way the connector will not disconnect when I don’t want it to (ie when I mute the audio for commercials or bathroom breaks).

We’re still not communicating. Two connections are required in back. One for audio (the optical in your case) and one for power. The power connector can be plugged into the power supply (wall wart) and plugged into the wall. Or, one can unplug the wire from the power supply (it’s USB-A) and plug it into the TV. Done this way, the TV Connect will only be powered on when the TV is powered on.

A few days ago I had the fitter change my KS9s to that third choice, but I am not understanding the part about using “the aids button” to switch between my laptop and conversational mode, making me feel rather stupid. The only button on my KS9s is a rocker switch. Pressing the front of the rocker raises the volume and pressing the rear of the rocker lowers volume. Where or how do I press the rocker to switch to the audio coming out of the TV Connector plugged into my laptop audio port?
(The alternative of resorting to myPhonak on my phone is an annoying, time-consuming multi-step process which causes me to lose the first part of the audio of any program I am trying to listen to, so I’d love to learn how to use the H/A button for this purpose.)

Let me look into this.
Long holds do different things pending on how the fitter sets the aids up.
I used the second choice for the TV connector. When the aids got in range of the TV connector and the the TV connector was broadcasting the aids gave one tune for the notice. You then had 5 seconds I believe to just push a button on the either aid to connect to the TV connector or do nothing to not connect.

I didn’t know (or didn’t remember) that there was a "long press"option built into the hearing aid rocker button!
The long press did the trick! It’s a breeze with the long press going back and forth between conversation and switching between my laptop vla TV Connector.

By comparison, here is what I was going through trying to do it via myPhonak:
What was happening was that the TV Connector option on the myPhonak app does not show up until I have started a (news or instructional video), so I have to start the video and then by the time the TV Connector option appears I have lost several minutes of dialog and have to restart the video. Also if I paused the video, I immediately lost the connection and had to jump through the hoops again of finding and selecting the Connector option from myPhonak. In addition, when the video stopped and I would try to immediately to go on to a succeeding video, I would have to jump through all these myPhonak steps again. Not to mention that each time I had to wait and watch while myPhonak “finds” my left and right H/As again!

Yes you can get rid of it. It is set to auto so as you leave and re-enter the pickup range it keeps notifying you. The solution is to have the audiologist change it to manual so you tell it when to connect. I had the same problem and it was maddening, but that change fixed that. You just have to remember to turn it on when you need it.
