I currently have Phonak Audeo Lumity hearing aids with custom molds. The aids are about 4 years old. I have an appointment with my audiologist at Mass. Eye and Ear on Sept. 25 and want to explore upgrading to either the Phonak Eon or the Oticon Reveal. Since I am now on Medicare and my supplemental plan only allows a small amount toward hearing aids I am trying to determine if an upgrade makes sense and if so whether to get the Eon or the Reveal. My last hearing test was on July 25, 2025 and showed the following (if I am interpreting the data correctly):
125 250 500 750 1000 2000 3000 4000 6000 8000
Left Ear 20 30 30 40 50 50 75 85 75 90
Right Ear 35 40 45 55 60 65 90 100 105 110
Word recognition scores were left ear 82%; right ear 50%.
These results were stable from the year before.
So back to my questions would either of these hearing aids – Eon or Reveal – be a significant upgrade and if so which one. I am less concerned about speech in noise than clarity/comprehension in conversations with my wife and in walks with friends. I realize the best “test” will be trying them and hopefully Mass. Eye and Ear will let me try both. It has a 60 day trial period. I assume the trial will have to be without custom molds and I don’t know how much difference that will make. Any help/suggestions appreciated.
