Using Live Caption on Pixel 8

I’m using the Android Live Caption on a Pixel 8 phone with Phonak i90s and with mixed results. It seems highly dependent on the quality of the senders phone. Also, I find it a little distracting due to the delay. And I do wish that the Caption screen would hang around after the call is ended.

Regarding the delay, I could swear that the version of Caption that I started using had settings that allowed me to speed up the response time (at the expense of power consumption) but those settings don’t seem to be available anymore with the current version. :thinking:

Sometimes the captioning can be really confusing. Yesterday, speaking with the doctor about my 96 year old father in the hospital, the doctor said he had a problem with his bowels… Caption said he had a problem with his “balls” :joy:

Yes the captioning app doesn’t get it right all the time, but as somebody with a severe hearing loss I’m happy for any help I can get with phone calls.

Which app specifically is that? I see dozens in the Play Store. I think Live Transcribe is pretty good (I use it mainly in meetings) and you can save the transcript.

Edit: Also, if you are in the US, you can get live captioning from a real caption human being using apps like Caption Call, or even their phones. Not sure if they have VOIP phones, but they do have landline ones.

I’m using Live Caption. it’s one of the Android accessibility apps. Many of the Play Store apps have been developed using US federal funding, and consequently, they are only available to US citizens. Many of these apps are set up to use the phone’s microphones, but I want to use the Phonak hearing aids for I/O during phone calls.

Live Transcribe is the other built in app. Works pretty well in one-on-one meetings.
