Using partner mic with an assisted hearing device in a theater

I have a partner mic and wear Sonnheiser R hearing aids. The movie theater I go to provided a small box with headphones. It has been mostly worthless for me. Someone told me I could plug the cord of the partner mic into the box and get better sound clarity. I am wondering if I will need an adapter cord of some type. As far as I know, my hearing aids do not have T Coil and I think the device at the theater is just an amplifier. Has anyone tried this? I am going to take the partner mic this weekend along with some extra cords and try it.

I use a partner mic to turn my voip landline into a streaming phone. I turn the speaker phone down, put the partner mike on the speaker face down and adjust my hearing aid volume.

In a theater you could clip the partner mic to your shirt and let it stream the movie into your hearing aids. It should work.

With your hearing loss, I assume you use P receivers with c-shells or double flanged power domes. I do and the streaming gives me the best clarity.

I never needed cables.

You likely need a male-to-male audio cable to hook the mic to their box. I did this with a Roger on for church with their receiver and the audio cable that goes with my Roger. It worked pretty well once I knew I needed the sound guy’s mono adapter (they only use one channel out of the board to go to the speakers, and they send that one channel to left (or right, I can’t remember,) and only that side. There was an adapter I needed to give me the sound I. Both ears. They used them with the headphones they gave people, but initially didn’t think to give one to me.

It will really depend on how good the signal is that comes out of their box!

I never before knew you could do so much with the partner mic. I think I will call mine the mighty mic. I will try this and yes I have the molds and lots of power. Thanks for this.

I tested the partner mic in the theater room. It worked, but I didn’t like the sound. I switched to the Roger Pen, and it was really good.

I bought the Roger Pen and Roger On new for $200 each about 4 years ago. The Audis were selling them for $1700 each, which was way north of sanity.

If you don’t have one, you can find them on eBay for less, but they are used. If you buy used, make sure they come with two licenses, one for each ear.

Isn’t it ridiculous what the audis charge? No wonder there is a mass stampede to Costco and ebay.

Update: I tried the partner mic by holding it with the earphones that the film theater provided. The sound of speech was a bit off but I understood most of the words so I would say it offered some benefit.
