Water in ear canal

After recently getting a new set of hearing aids, I noticed one day that I could no longer hear out of my left ear. Went back to the old set and had same problem. It appears that water ( from my shower?) in my ear canal was the cause. It took almost a week for this to normalize.
is there a way to prevent getting water deep in my ear?

regular visits, to have them cleared out. 2 times a year. there’s metallic wax removal tools with a circular hole at the tip, these help to clean the outer ear, be very careful to not insert too close to the eardrum into the corner of the canal.

Disposable earplugs are probably the simplest and cheapest option (I say disposable because I don’t like the idea of inserting dirty potentially moldy plugs in my ear).

I wear earplugs when getting in the shower. Be sure to clean the ear plugs after each shower with alcohol to keep them free from bacteria.

If I am not washing my hair, I sometimes will wear just a shower cap.
