What gains are applied below the threshold of 50db?

To set the compression gains in hearing aids we usually set three different thresholds. L50, L65 and L80.

I want to ask some questions.

  1. I understand that for sound levels above 50db, we can input the gains manually. For sound levels below 50db what gains are applied ?

  2. If any gains are applied automatically for sounds below 50db do these gains follow the supplied curve ?

Modern will apply linear amplification below a certain ‘kneepoint threshold’. That threshold is typically around 50dB.

If you assume that whatever gain value is set for 50dB will also apply below it, then you are probably close to the truth.

Thank you but I am not sure if the gain vales are also applied for thresholds below 50db. They might fade gradually below that threshold. Only God knows. I will try your PDF link below.
